Help with conversions... please
I am putting this in here since this is where most of these weapons wields and whatnot happens. Please forgive my ignorance in advanced as this may make some of you laugh.
Basically: 1TT=?GT 1GT=?MT 1MT=?KT And I am not sure but I have heard TJ=someting along those lines...
I am pretty much asking how you convert something from TT / GT / MT / KT >>> TT / GT / MT / KT or vice-versa.
Thank you for any help... yes you may laugh now.

Tera (T) = 10^12
Giga (G) = 10^9
Mega (M) = 10^6
Kilo (K) = 10^3
Mili (m) = 10^-3
micro = 10^-6
nano (n) = 10^-9
pico (p) = 10^-12
In other words, a megaton would be 1000 kilotons, or how new chips are rated in a couple of gigahertz vs hundreds of megahertz just a few years ago.

1 KT = 1 kiloton or 1 000 tons of TNTTechno_Union wrote:I am putting this in here since this is where most of these weapons wields and whatnot happens. Please forgive my ignorance in advanced as this may make some of you laugh.

1 MT = 1 megaton or 1 000 000 tons of TNT
1 GT = 1 gigaton or 1 000 000 000 tons of TNT
1 TT = 1 teraton or 1 000 000 000 000 tons of TNT
oh yeah and isoton = 1 ton of TNT
TJ = terajoule.

Iso isn't an SI unit.

Thing to keep in mind with computers though is most of the stuff is 2 to the power of something instead of 10 to the power of something. So 1 kilobyte =1024 bytes instead of 1000 bytes, 1 megabyte equals 1048576 bytes instead of 1 million bytes and so on.Cyborg Stan wrote:<snip>

A Kiloton is 1 trillion little calories not to be mixed up with kilo-calories (which do correspond to the number on the side of your ceral box). It actually doesn't have anything to do with TNT anymore because of the problem of whose ton you were using for a kT. One calorie is 4.184 joules.

What do you mean by common use? I have never measued anything in iso-meters or iso-grams.Lord Revan wrote:true, but it common use. there id no SI unit for 10E0NecronLord wrote:Iso isn't an SI unit.

It's common unit where the term "same as" , the term "iso" in isoton (energy/work) can used to seperate it from ton (mass) meters or gram have no need for such. BTW have youu heard of a isobaric reactions?Prozac the Robert wrote:What do you mean by common use? Along the line of isobaric and isothermal we might expect isomass to mean a process where the mass remains constant. I can't see how that leads to a prefix meaning 10^0.
Separating tons of TNT from weight might make sense, but I don't see how iso would be a good prefix for that. Especially since you would then need MegaIsoTons for big explosions.

Iso mean same as so: 1 isoton=1E0 ton=1*1 ton=1 ton. Also there can be double prefixes 1 000 isotons =1 000 tons = 1 kt = 1 kilotonProzac the Robert wrote:Along the line of isobaric and isothermal we might expect isomass to mean a process where the mass remains constant. ps. n^0=1 if n is not 0 and 1En = 1*10^n.

Reven, you're ignoring his main point: that the prefex "iso" isn't common use as you suggested it was. The reason for that is simple: nobody fucking uses it, because it's not a real SI unit of measurement. It's just something that was made up here based on the latin term for "same as."
I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Well, in common usage it means unchanging, which I suppose is where he got the interpretation.

You should probably memorize the basic prefixes so that instead of opening up a web page to do the conversions, you can just do them in your head in a second or two. It's easier than you might think; check out these conversions:Techno_Union wrote:Damn! That's exactly what I need. Thanks.
1 kilo = 1000
1 mega = 1000 kilo
1 giga = 1000 mega
1 tera = 1000 giga
See the pattern here? Just by moving the decimal point around in multiples of three, you can convert easily between any of the metric prefixes. You only need to memorize the order of the prefixes, and pretty soon it all becomes trivial.
It's the same way for small prefixes:
1 milli = 1/1000
1 micro = 1/1000 milli
1 nano = 1/1000 micro
1 pico = 1/1000 nano
Easy as pie (mmmm, pie), and very useful.

Already have. I guess I have never really given them much thought, hence why I really never considered what they are.sketerpot wrote:You should probably memorize the basic prefixes so that instead of opening up a web page to do the conversions, you can just do them in your head in a second or two.
