Who CAN the Federation Ground Troops beat?
Do they ever win?
Just a question we all know The Enterprise will come along with Super Data the droid that can hit any target if he stands in plain sight for a minute or two
But thats besides the point has the Ground Troops ever won?
Just curious I watched maybe all told 50 Epsoides of ST, Next Gen, Voyager and DS9
And I don't feel like digging through Mr Wongs Data-base of Epsoides

Well, it's a movie about cavemen that go on a quest for fire because their tribe's fire was accidentally extinguished. It's pretty good, even if Starfleet "troops" could kick the characters' asses (they're cavemen).
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Yes, but I wouldn't pit them against decent bowmen or knights.

There's a good one...how would a Starfleet ground force fare against the forces of someone like William the Conqueror?
Transporters work fine (unless northern France has that damned ore in the hills), but they definitely don't want to use them to get closer to the combat...their best bet is to stay at a distance, where their phasers are useful...then all they have to worry about is archers, who would do some damage.
I actually wouldn't be surprised either way in this battle.
Howabout a SF ground force vs. Napoleon's army? hehe...

Starfleet ground forces don't seem to operate in formation, so a rain of arrows wouldn't have the same effect as one a contemporary army. The Federation would probably win.Robert Treder wrote:There's a good one...how would a Starfleet ground force fare against the forces of someone like William the Conqueror?

A similar idea is being discussed in an ASVS thread. The consensus is that the Federation would have the advantage in rate of fire and firepower in the small arms category, but Napoleonic Artillery and Cavalry would be too much for them.Howabout a SF ground force vs. Napoleon's army? hehe...
Pathetic, isn't it?

Considering the phaser's known propensity for failing to penetrate armor, I think armored knights should do adequately (especially since their just Klingons with the batleths replaced with swords).Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:They're not THAT bad.Howedar wrote:Yes, but I wouldn't pit them against decent bowmen or knights.
That, and the typical English longbowman could hit men at 200 yards, firing 12 to 15 arrows per minute.

I think that phaser would penetrate knight armour. Though it might not...

Well a Brit army of 1810 has been seen to take them out if you believe ASVS.
Other than that, these guys are pathetic. I fear that one day Star Trek episodes may be used as historical documents by an alien race to see just how lame we are and then try and invade. Once they find we can actually utilise our brains in combat they may give up and nuke us (unless we have a Macintosh and virus handy).

Heh...
If that was true, the British would never have conquered an empire...The Feds will never beat anyone as kong as they keep on wearing those red shirts.
I had a Bill Maher quote here. But fuck him for his white privelegy "joke".

the differance is the British where fighting with a HUGE technological edge. also the red shirts made a level of SENSE for the brits. back in the age of muskets large formations of troops fireing muskets kicked up so much smoke it was difficult to SEE. thus they needed brightinly coloured uniforms, ALL major powers of that era had it. the brits had red, the french had blue etc

Running thru the forest in a bright red uniform is idiotic, and as such, fits perfectly into Starfleet's philosophy of:
-conception of ground armies (none at all)
-moral ideology (communist anyone?)
-ship design (exploding warp cores, 'we consider our families strenghts, not weaknesses' -Riker)
-small arms design
