Post by lazerus »

Please provide reasons.

Personally, I would prefed the federation, because with a millitary like Starfleet as the fed's millitary wing, I could conquer it all with a butter knife. :D

But why would you want to? :)

Seriously, I think I rather be in an Imperial citizen. I question alot of the moral standards of the Federation. I'm just as critical about the Empire, but at least it is not under as many veils.

We're quite different how the humans running around in Federation society. 20th century capitalists are seen barbaric in the eyes of some Starfleet officers (Riker). I can imagine having a hard time fitting in such a setting. I'd feel more at place with the humans on any imperial planet, as long as it's not Alderaan. :)

I would prefer to be an Imperial citizen. As long as you weren't a Rebel supporter, you would be fine.

Idealy, I would want to be a wealthy citizen living on Coruscant during the height of the Empire.

I'd prefer the Empire. Yeah I know I could lounge around all day as a welfare bum in the Federation, but I'd rather work hard and purchase my own A-Wing.

Federation, except not Earth. Paradise that it may be, every time the Federation runs into a hostile race, they go straight for Sol. Character shield or not, even in Star Trek a planet's luck has to run out sometime and I don't want to be there when it happens.

Even if we remove the clause in the Imperial Citizen's Contract where he eventually gets the life energies sucked out of him by the Emperor, I think I'd go with the Feds.

Keeping in mind, though, that this is because I feel I can do the least amount of work possible on Earth, while at the same time experiencing the wonders of holodeck porn.

Depends. If I had to be the avergae citizen, Holosex and free everything in an egalitarian utopia is nice. Plus, with my pathetic grasp of simple tactics and strategy, I could become a Fleet Admiral in minutes
, and then become President, then President for life. I'm sure you can see where this is going...

BUT, if you could choose what you were born into, being a Moff or other wealthy man's child on Coruscant beats out any Trek-life. Many opportunities to become an admiral.

 Tell that to Luke when talking about his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Or the entire population of the planet of Alderaan.

Seriously, I've actually watched Star Wars and actually read some of the EU. Where all you idiots are getting the impression life under the Empire is some dream or easy is beyond me. I constantly read and hear about the oppressive Empire, crazy taxes, ruthless authorities(including things like torture, family's killed/held hostage just to get you). Glorified stories about the main character's lives seems to what everyone thinks they'll live like. And even their lives are hardly that great; Luke's parent's killed, Leia watching her homeworld obliterated, Han growing up under heavy physical and mental abuse, Chewbacca having been a slave. Life under the Empire makes it quite clear the average citizen is struggling to make ends meet while under the constant threat of being shot by a grumpy Storm Trooper or identified as part of a rebel cell for the sake of someone's much anticipated promotion.

Yeah, life under the Empire is just swell.

Sure, the Federation is run by a bunch of idealistic morons, but anyone who's going to suggest they'd be subject to a cruel thumb like the Empire needs to get their head examined. Go to Earth, and find yourself a holodeck. Play Palpatine and with lightsabers there. ;)

Bah, you know full well most SW materials have a severe Rebel/New Republic bias. History is written by the winners, after all (in-universe, of course). :P

Well, if the Emperor gets his way then it will suck greatly to be an Imperial Citizen ... but you'll never know how much it sucks. You will be an extension of his will.

OTOH, living in the Federation ain't too happy either.

So does that mean we can jock up the Death Star Alderaan blast to simple propaganda rather than Imperial capabilities? ;)

In what way? Like I said before, the Federation may be run by idealistic morons, but if you're on Earth, it sounds like you're set for life and don't have to do jack shit for it. Who wouldn't jump at that? If working is your thing, you can still do it.

In the inner territories of the Federation yeah but live on the borders and you could be politely asked to vacate your colony for your own safety as its now the real estate of those nice butchers next door to avoid a war that might kill billions which would be small comfort to you when you have to decide whether you want to stick it out or abandon your home.

I think I would prefer to live in the Federation not because of the tech or life stlye but beacuse they have only charted a small percentage of their galaxy so plenty of room to go explore the unkown. As most of the star wars galaxy been mapped even they have plenty of mystries to explore as well.

Then live in the inner territories. Hell, I was assuming living on Earth (Trek option) was the first choice in this scenario.

As long as I got Prince Xizor's living standard (plush palace, lots of harems, etc), I wouldn't mind become an extension of his will.

I'm amused that anyone here thinks they could become an ISD captain. The Imperial Navy is rife with who-you-know connections and politiking, and even if this entire board signed up, going by the numbers, our chances of producing a captain aren't good.
