I have always know the numbers. I have always know that the DS2 dwarfs everything the Federation has to offer, but up until I saw that image, I had no idea of the scope. The image actually took my breath away.

Please answer me one thing. I love Star Trek. I breath Star Trek, but how can some people look at this and declare that the Empire doesn't stand a chance?

I've...I've got to go stare at that image for a good long while

This is exactly why I posted this picture to this site with the title 'A tall glass of perspective' waaaaay back in the early days. Of a year ago.

It drives the point home like a 120mm shell.

Now what we need is a picture of the Death Star next to the Dyson sphere.

Assuming I haven't screwed up my sums (read: I probably have), the DS2 has a volume 7.9E7 times bigger than the Borg Cube!

This can't be right - for a 1 mm Death Star, I get a 125 m Dyson Sphere

Well, the Dyson sphere in STTNG "Relics" was approximately 200 million kilometers in diameter. That's 250 thousand times the diameter of the Death Star, which according to my peek at the online unit converter, means the Dyson sphere in your math should actually be 250 meters, double your number. :D

I used EAS's 100 million kilometer figure - that would probably be radius rather then diameter.

And according to my calculations, the Dyson sphere has 1.953 thousand trillion times the volume of the Death Star. In other words, the difference in size between the Death Star and Dyson Sphere is 17.9 million times greater in scale than the size difference between the Death Star and Borg cube. HA!

Shouldn't be too hard...

800 km diameter = 400 km radius = 4/3*pi*(400)^3 = 64,000,000*pi*4/3 = 85,333,333*pi = approx. 268,083,200 cubic kilometers...

Borg Cube = 3 km x 3 km x 3 km = 9 cubic kilometers...

Woah.

Did I do my math right? (It's early in the morning, I may have screwed up)

If I did it right, then the Death Star is 29,787,022 time greater volume than the Borg Cube! (2.9E7)

Feel free to point out any screwups in my math.

Crap, I want an edit button.

Since the Death Star is hollow, you'll need to find out the thickness to calculate the actual volume. The end result will still be bigger than the DS, but not trillions of times...

holy pistachios!

that scale picture is incredible, I never realized that the Enterprise was that small in comparision to the DS. But something comes to mind (tell me if I should make another thread on this...). If the Enterprise is so small, can't it outmanuvere the DS weapons fire?
And I cast my crown before God Above
Sayin’ “I don’t deserve this act of love”
Then He picks me up and says to me
“You are my child and I love you, oh you are my child and I love you”

And I need to take these trials, and listen to what God says
I need to be refined; I need to be strengthened
These trials will teach me, they’ll teach me how to live
I want them to teach me, I want to be like Christ

As far as I can tell, you got the volume of the DS2 right (I accidentally used 800KM as the radius instead of the diameter), but the Borg Cube's volume is 27 cubic kilometres, not 9. That gives a total size difference of 9.9E6 times!

Just so that everyone's clear, I'm not claiming that the DS2 has a volume exactly 9.9E6 times bigger than a Borg Cube (it's probably a bit higher, since Borg Cubes have large areas of open space inside). I'm just trying to visualise the sheer size difference between the two.
