An Idiot on Startrek.com

Post by Sothis »

I was browsing around and found a versus debate on the Startrek.com forums, and found this:

+http://boards.startrek.com/community/me ... ry33808850

I think that guy needs taking down a peg or two.

I've learned to ignore TrekBBS as much as I can.

Seriously, the stupidity that can be shown there is not worth the effort to even read.

Which idiot are you referring to?

Why do I get the feeling that "DM Jay" is the same idiot that was posting as "Dark Master Jay" and subsequently banned on the SW.com forums?

Because he is. DarkStar goes by Guardian[insert forgotten number tag]. I still have my account there. Might go back to crack some more heads later.

I very rarely go to the SW forums, though the name does ring a bell- I might have seen a thread here or there.

The boards on Star Trek are full of idiots and fanboys, kind of like the boards at Star Wars, so it doesn't suprise me to see that kind of stupidity.

I'm sure they feel exactly the same way about us- but I do love reading all of the 'Voyager PWNS Millenium Falcon' threads. Their reliance on technobabble and psuedoscience is beyond compare.

Do you think the NOMAD probe looks enough like Tom Servo for my avatar over there?

Not all the people on that board are that bad. To me it seems the argument was being won by the wars side. Come on through that entire thread the pro-starterk side has like 2 continues posters.

Also look at people like lanceromega or elfwood (he is one of the best posters I have ever seen 8) whistles innocently) they are putting forward logical argument wining people over.

The problem with determined Trekkies is that they only need one stone-headed person who will just keep posting and posting and posting the same things over and over, totally ignoring rebuttals, until everyone else just gives up and walks away.

Right now I feel very much like walking away- Wishfire at least seems like he might be amenable to reason, though Darth Servo's the person to talk to about that. DMJay appears to be beyond hope!

Misfire is FAR more intelligent and reasonable than DMJay, although thats not saying much.

DMJay is a mindles troll clinging to the old "no laser" myth and the vast bulk of his "arguments" are huge false dilema fallacies. For example, when it comes to Imperial leadership, anyone who ever made ONE fatal mistake is totally incompetant according to him. Federation mistakes even if we point out legions of them, if they didn't lead to the person's death, are NOT signs of incompetance. Another: he tries to use AOTC as proof of how easily Jedi can be killed. I have pointed out to him that their ability to use the force was greatly weakened in the film. His response? "Oh yeah? Well I saw them useing the force, so obviously you're wrong". He clearly lacks the ability to distinguish between "all", "some" and "none".

As I said, Wishfire isn't nearly that bad but he does have his problems and blindspots (as does anyone who thinks the Federation could stop an Imperial invasion). His two proposed tactics:

1) surprise attacks on imperial ship yards with transported bombs or nanites. When I pointed out that shields block transporters his 'best' retort was I hadn't proved that SW ship yards are shielded.
2) Plant a mine field in the path of an Imperial fleet by knowing the ISD's point of origing and flight path. I pointed out that on a scale of light years, being off by even 1/1,000,000th of a degree would put the minefield completely out of the path of the ISD. He then quitely switched his tactic to somehow stealing mission orders from an imperial base, as if the Feds would be able to decode and transmit the data before the ISD reached its target.

 Wishfire isn't as bad as DMJay but he's still a rabid no-math trekkie. I may start calling him 'Misfire' but that would be an insult to one of the G1 transformers.

DMJay's latest stupidity:

I showed him the dialogue from "Loud as a Whisper" where Picard wouldn't endanger his ship by taking it into a war zone contested with laser weapons.
DMJackass wrote:But that dialouge says nothing I repeat NOTHING about getting damage from lasers, so you F-ing dumba$$ you have just misinterpeted that dialouge as well, man you are truly an idiot. I love who you stupid morons always say that I do something, say something, or misinterpet something and then you do the exact same thing and say that your right! My god your parents should be shoot for raising such a dumba$$ for a person.
Is it possible for someone to get any dumber?

I haven't seen him post the "4 missles and an A wing take out the Executor" argument yet. He's just focusing on the "no laser" myth.
