Who would you root for?

Post by Junghalli »

In a war between the Empire and the Federation, whose side would you be on. Forget the power level differentials and who you think would win, if the Federation had a 50/50 chance of surviving the war would you be on their side or the Empire's. Basically which one do you think has more to offer the galaxy and you would rather live in.

The Empire. Because I know the Rebels will win in the end. Frankly, the Marxist hellhole that is the Federation doesn't appeal to me.

Let's say TNG to make it a little interesting, because I can't imagine anybody who'd rather live in the Empire than the democratic, capitalistic TOS Federation.
I'll still go with Federation. The TNG Fed may be a hypocritical racist commie near-dictatorship, but at least you don't run the risk of being executed every time you speak to someone in power.

Easy, Trek hands down. Simple reason? Holodecks. I can "live" under the Empire there if I wanted to. Hell, be the Empire for that matter. Play versus all I wanted too.

I cant decide...

The Empire is a racist, facist shithole in the universe who ruthlessly crush anyone in their path, ruled by a decaying old sombitch who sucks people's souls out to stay alive.

The Federation is a slave-owning, racist, communist shithole...but thats about it. Generally they're not too bad, if you can escape the ethical crisis of their foundation.

Uh...

Damn. I have to say Federation. Whatever shitheads that run it i'd have a better chance of staying alive than in the Empire. Plus the Emperor and his Moff boyfriends are just evil, pure and simple, there are still good people left in the Federation.

Id rather live in the Empire than any era of Trek. The one in a billion chance of force powers aside I got a batter chance of getting my own ship in the Empire and living a hedonistic between the stars lifestyle.

The Empire. It would actually be pretty cool.

And I couldn't stand the communism of the Feddies.

The Federation, easily. The Empire is evil and i going to be defeated and be replaced with a Repub, lic thats going to be invaded and defeated by an evil and massmurdering species.

One advantage of the Empire over the Federation. Only ONE man in the Empire suffers from severe pomposity while it seems to be pretty standard fare in Trek. I couldn't stand listening to those speeches every day. Its almost as bad as our current President.

Given how little civilian life we've seen in Star Trem in the TNG era, it's a hard one to judge. It looks like people can still own there own houses and develop stuff to some extent (Picard's brother's vineyards come to mind), but otherwise we've only ever seen off duty Starfleet officers, they seem to get nice apartments (Like Barclays) and lots of time off (when not on deep space missions of course- did Picard say something about 250+ days shore leave in Insurrection?).

There is seemingly no crime on Earth, or little enough to warrant no dedicated police force. You get to do practically anything you like, you have holodecks and all the basics you need to live provided for you, yadda yadda. Works for me. Probably get a little boring if everyone is dressed the same and we all like the same music, but ah well. I can go to a rock concert in the holodeck or something.

Security is so sucky there's a chance a cloaked force of breen ships might drop a few bombs on my house but I guess that's still a tiny possibility.

That fleet was destroyed in seconds and dont forget that the Breen has cloaking devices.

I'd like to live in the Federation, holodecks seal it for me.

Plus I wouldn't have to work.

Personally, I'd prefer the Empire. Capitalism for all! Plus, you know that the millions of Imperial ships will keep you relatively safe– nothing like the Federation, which could get anally violated by the Borg in ground combat. I would not trust my life with people who lose to zombies with less intelligence than that of a chimp.

No, didnt notice that  The Empire dont do any better dealing with cloaks. Remember the three cloaked ISD.

The Empire is racist and fascist! Oh noes!

Except... its not racist (I'm bloody human anyway, so who cares) and in the Empire my family and I aren't going to get eaten by a snowflake or something. Living in the Fed would be like living in a small town in the middle of nowhere with no nightlife. Sucky.

If the Empire wins, then Palpatine will go with his plan to suck the lifeforce out of everybody. Remember?

Better hope the Federation wins. If the Federation is at least able to divert Palpatine's attention away, the Rebellion will have more of a chance of succeeding.

Plus the question isn't if you live in the Empire or not, it's who who "wins". Obviously even if the Federation somehow pulled a dues ex machina on the Empire and Palpatine was killed, you could still live in the Empire because the Rebellion would have won.

It's not like the Feds are going to occupy an entire galaxy if they win. Marxist or not, the free galaxy will still be there to go to. Unless you really hate the Feds for some reason, and I don't see how you could hate the Feds more than a man who burns entire planets and is going to suck the lifeforce out of everybody.

Yeah, and AFAIC I'd be happy if the government changed from Federation to Empire. You don't really lose anything, but get more fun, more security, and more interesting things to do (for instance, I bet the Federation doesn't have any infosec specialists :))

You're all assuming that Star Wars doesn't have the equivalent of holodecks. That seems like a rather unreasonable base assumption to me. After all, they do have holograms.
