Depressing news about the future of Trek

Post by Perinquus »

Those of us who are near to weeping at the current state to which Berman & Braga, and their cronies have reduced Trek, and would like to see the whole franchise subjected to a mercy killing before these clowns fuck it up any worse than they have already, must surely be disheartened by the news in the following article:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/artic ... ml?cnn=yes

It seems the franchise is still a big money maker for Paramount, and the horror that is "Enterprise" continues to do well in the ratings. That's bad news, since it means that as long as it keeps raking in the dollars, Paramount will keep it going, and since it is making money under the auspices of Berman and Braga, those two no-talent hacks will continue to helm the sinking ship for the forseeable future. Oh the humanity... :(

And whilst shit shows like 'Enterprise' cruise the airwaves, good shows like 'Firefly' kick the bucket.

Enterprise has 7 main characters. Firefly has 9. Whilst I cannot keep the crew of Enterprise straight(what's this guy's name again? Who is he? Why does he seem to be exactly like the black guy?), I have yet to meet a person who thinks the cast of Firefly are all carbon clones of each other.

And not only that, but firefly is so dissed that even the picture in your banner only shows a red X.

I thought the ratings were falling?

Ah well...the saddest part is that Trek will die on some horrible whimper instead of a bang.

Still I have the ToS...and steer clear of the crap that is Boobyprise

As for Firefly...seen a couple episodes...why isn't it doing better...Fox's ineptitude or that that Fox is expecting another Buffy and it's not?

Don't blame B&B. They're like retarded slugs; they just inch forward mindlessly on their way. Blame the legions of Trekkie fan-whores who will glue themselves to the TV and gladly ante up the money for anything these two no-talent hacks sell them.

Berman even knows it; we all saw his little public comment about how Trek films are great because you have a guaranteed minimum income from the fanbase.

It was underpromoted. One episode was pre-empted twice. Baseball screwed the schedule. And it can be considered a cult show. Fox just doesn't really seem to care about promoting it that well.

It's too intelligent, frankly. FOX is cancelling it in favor of 'Joe Millionaire', which says a lot.

Remember! If you want to keep QUALITY SCI-FI on the air, contact the site in my sig, and get UPN to pick up Firefly!

Why can't ANIME have a fanbase like that?

No, on second thought, a mindless fanbas that accepts anything is bad. You need discrimating tastes to keep quality.

The goddamn story reads like a promo piece for Nemesis
"Perhaps we weren't careful enough in giving the audience some breathing room — a year or two they could have lain fallow," says Berman. Nemesis, however, may prove him wrong. In firing up one of the most riveting space battles in the history of the franchise, it just may get all those closeted Trekkies to come out for a day
And Nemesis is better — darker, more surprising — than the average Trek.
Most of the reviews of the movie I've seen say it's awful and even the space battle sequences are poorly lit and shot.
Perhaps that's why Enterprise hasn't connected with people; it has one-third fewer viewers in its second season than Voyager did during its sophomore outing
I guess that poor writing, acting, and a total disregard for estabished Trek 'history' has nothing to do with the fact that Enterprise is losing viewers.

Not a very well researched article at all, but one that is consistent with Time's journalistic standards these days. :P
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

I say, "Japanese cartoons!" I get an , "Oh like DBZ?" from reg'lar people and a, "I will bop you with my mighty mallet of rage! GRR!" or a, "Dude, anime is much great than anything ever made! I hate America! I wish I was Japanese!" from the Otaku :D

Not really - meet an otaku and you'll get a ten-minuite oration on how superior anime is to anything else and how pathetic it is that Americans don't appreciate it and that they associate it with such crap as DBZ or Pokemon... seriously, I know some people like that.

And I'm glad I do. 8)

Eh I find them to be similar company to people who will give a dissertations about why Warren Ellis has a manifesto and is spouting absolute truth(nice ideas...but oi)

For the most part whether people like it or not...DBZ is anime and is sadly considered one of the closer links to it for most people.

I mean good anime is good but sadly DBZ has gained such a following that most consider it to be anime par rather than just an action show.

"Enterprise" continues to do well in the ratings? Not according to the L.A. Times' Business section. (12-13-02) Enterprise is floundering badly, and they hope that "Nemesis" will boost ratings.

From what I've gleaned about the future of Trek (TV Guide interview with Logan) Logan wants to bring back the old Trek characters and have them interact with the TNG era characters. This either means CGI Kirk and Spock, or Captain Archer, Ben Sisko, etc.

What would be point of that?

I mean I liked that one episode where Sisko met Kirk. But what would be the point of them doing it constantly?

Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money, Money...

If the rabid fan-whores are willing to support the series now, despite its present sorry state, can you imaging how much they'll foam at the mouth for crossovers?
