Now effective are Tac Fighters?

I know they are better than shuttles, and not used for transport like Runabouts, but what can ya'll tell me about it?

A TIE defender will rip them a new one. They are essentialy mini-capships. They have I think 2 phaser emmiters and a torp launcher. hey are cpable of low warp(~warp 5 IIRC)

TAC's are torpedo boats not fighters.

They would stand about as well against a real fighter as a PT boat agaimst a WWII fighter.

Tac fighters are too big and undergunned to be effective against imperial fighters. Their micro torpedoes and phasers are not as powerful as those 6 megaton laser cannons imperial fighters carry and while they would kill unshielded tie fighters and interceptors they will have trouble with shielded craft like defenders and assault gunboats. As for their own shields
a single hit will destroy them .

correction: 6 megatons are point defense laser cannons on papships. TIE fighters carry weaons that are only a few kilotons, but fire extremly fast.

Think Pulse Phasers on meth, when you think of TIE weapons(~ 15 shots per second IIRC)

in every movie tie fighters get off a shot or two per second per cannon. if IIRC says otherwise it directly contradicts the movie.

He's screwing up his Facts here
Jango's Dual Repeator Blasters are putting out 12 or so a second at Kiloton level, Tie Fighters Fire somthing heavier at 6 a second(Bursts of 3 x 2 guns)

Jango's rapid-fire midship laser cannons put out 2 kilotons per shot I believe.

Midships guns we see in action against Obi wan are 2 kiloton. It's the dual twin cannons at the bottom of the ship that are 600GJ.

I thought the ICS stated that the point defense lasers on an accamalator
was rated at 6 megaton. It is likeley that the fighters would carry something similar. Of course it may be that capital ship point defense
weopens may be powerful that starfighter lasers. I might be wrong and
would be glad if some one can show the diffrence between point defense
lasers and starfighter lasers.
