Sovereign vs Defiant
Which would win one on one or in an equal-number fleet engagement?
How powerful are the pulse phasers relative to photon or quantum torpedoes?

Defiant class ships have been seen to pull off moves that Sovies can't, such as in 'Paradise Lost', where the Defiant flips around, and in 'For the Uniform', where it jinks around a bit. For sheer firepower, then yes, the Sovies take it, but agility also comes into play, which means this will be a painful fight for the Sovies- they'll win, but by no means will they win comfortably.

As Nemesis showed, the Sovie, while not as agile as the Defiant class, isn't just a fire while moving in a straight line ship. It made attack runs on the Scimitar. The agility difference isn't too great.

Soverigan, it would take what pounding the defiants can dish out and return them, the defiant's agility cannot compensate for weaker shields and weapons.

Sovereign would easily take this one. It's outmatches the Defiant by a wide margin. Both where biased towards combat, but the Sovereign has better fire arcs to make up for lesser ability. It has has what, a 25 to 1 advantage in mass? Thats going to let it win rather easily.

I'd have to give it to the sovereign class.

Is there a possibility of pulse phasers being more powerful than the emitter type, making them larger and forceing them to be fixed to the ship? (I might of got this off GK'S site, don't flame) Doesn't the defiant also have more torpedo tubes?

There was an instance of the Defiant firing pulse phasers at a Chintaka (was flying towards the Defiant at the time) which caused it to come to a full stop, spin for a second and explode as the Defiant flew by. (DS9: Sacrifice of Angels)
I used to have a vid capture of this, but it got lost in a format. If you really want it, hop on SB and PM "Jupiter" for it. Its ~3 - 4MB and in MPEG format.

(rolling eyes) Christ, back to this "maneuverability rules the day" crap again, are you? This is the same guy who thought the Feds could stand a real chance against the Empire since their superior maneuverability would, of course, allow them to dodge the hundreds of TLs coming their way. *uncontrollable laughter ensues*Sothis wrote:Defiant class ships have been seen to pull off moves that Sovies can't, such as in 'Paradise Lost', where the Defiant flips around, and in 'For the Uniform', where it jinks around a bit.
