How harsh would the Empire be towards the Federation?

Post by Battlehymn Republic »

After reading some of the fanfics on the Daltonator site, I'm getting the feeling that occasionally there's a bit of an overkill in these debates.

No, not just the obvious technological/industrial/military advantage the Empire has over the Federation. But occasionally some tactics as well.

Take the example of Wong's comment on my thread about Section 31.
Darth Wong wrote:The Empire is the sort of organization which would issue a decree saying that 1 million Federation citizens will die for every Imperial citizen who is killed by an act of Federation insurgents. And they would unhesitatingly follow through on this edict.
Now, I'm not disputing that statement. However, did the Empire routinely use such harsh measures against worlds they were conquering in the EU? Would they really pass such an edict against the Federation, who are already incredibly weak to begin with, and aren't the most spine-possessive political entity in the universe?

Then again, I suppose that a truly 'realistic' campaign would have the Federation surrendering by day one (after they realize who the Empire really are, and what they can really do), and that would be boring, boringer than stories where San Francisco gets BDZ'ed.

From what i konw of the empire they would be as brutal as necessary. If the Federation surrenders immediatly the Empire would be relativly lenient. It a revolt or insugence breaks out the Empire would crush the revolt relativly easily with massive force upto and including a BDZ on the planet. If the Federation decides to fight Earth gets BDZ'd end of story. The Empire loves to made bloody painful examples. Another factor is who leads the invasion. Vader and Tarkin would be more brutal than Thrawn for example. God help them if Palpatine leads the invasion. Than the Eclipse will be used to melt the crust of several planets for fun.

Depends on how the Empire approaches the situation. If they see the Federation as a threat (highly unlikely) then they would be very harsh, but if they think the Federation is not worth bothering with, they might ignore them completely. Also depends on how the Emipire conquers them, if they destroy the entire military or not, invade and occupy every planet. Again, depending on if the Federation has anything the Empire wants, in which case the Empire would take it without mercy. The severity of Imperial reprisals depends on what kind of sabotage the Feds manage assuming section 31-like actions.
