Anzac ceremonies in schools slated to become compulsory

Post by Xon »

In yet another back breaking backflip, the Liberal party of Western Australia has signaled their support for introducing compulsory attendance for anzac services in schools(public and mostlikely private as well).

Read this from "The West Australian", printed addition and havent found an online link.

What do you mean by 'ANZAC ceremonies'? Do you mean those morning services? Or parades? Or those school assemblies around about the time the minute of silence is observed?

Which ceremonies, exactly, are slated to be compulsory? (and of course, is this a bad thing?)

As an ignorant American who cannot locate Australia on the map, I must ask what are anzac ceremonies.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

ANZAC = Australian/New Zealand Army Corps.

Gallipoli = military fiasco where several thousand British and ANZAC troops were killed for little point.

ANZAC Day = Our Remembrance Day.

Yes, I think it is a bad thing. Granted, if I were an Australian I would probably have a very low opinion of anyone who skipped out on this kind of thing (quite frankly I'd want to slap them in the face), but I don't think there's a compelling reason to force someone who doesn't want to be there to attend.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
