Conservatism. Specifically, modern religious-regressivist, anti-intellectualist conservatism.

Seriously. There are simply so many things wrong with modern conservatism that it's hard to point out anything that I particularly LIKE about it.

Can a mod please change "for instance" to "for example" or "let's say"?

Polarization.

I hate it when people adopt extremes (far left/right - authoritarian/libertarian). Their political idealogy becomes their religion.

Also...(curse you edit button, abonding me in my hour of need!)

People that adopt some values which may be considered left or right wing, then tow the party line when it comes to issues that they should really disagree with. Just because one left leaning approch is good, doesn't mean all left wing approaches are good, and the same for the right.

U.S. Civil War.

The other side of the war on drugs. :P I mean, if we're going to call it a war, do the thing properly. Burn the cocaine fields! Burn them, I say!

Nuclear energy. (Christ, you get more escaped radioactive material out of a coal plant.)

The tax code. Its a freakin' mess.

Bashing the current governor of Kentucky for not only slashing university budgets for the coming up school year, but actually taking some of last year's higher education budget back.

Drunk driving.

Drunkenness in general.

People who tell me that playing music is easy. Let them blister their fingers on my bass and then tell me that.

Promotion of political centrism. More specifically, my brand of political centrism, that is, agree with one party on one issue and the other party on the next so that you cannot really join either of them. :P

Nuclear power, even wrote a letter to one of my senator's trying to get her to change her mind about being against it.

Nuclear waste dump in SA. God Dammit I would rather have the waste stored in the middle of our desert then in our hospitals and universities.

From those two idiots who think the words nuclear/radioactive means you are going to get cancer immediately,

Education, particularly tertiary which is let down as we aren't a pwerful enough voting block.

the Murray, something needs to be done NOW, it is already going to cost a fortune, but if we do nothing, it is going to become impossible to fix.

The "liberal" media~

Anything else I can stand looking at without wanting to throw a rock at my monitor~
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Since I graduated, Ive been spending a lot of time researching child literacy, both here in the states and abroad. I suppose thats a blanket pet issue of "education" but a very specific section of education.

What the FLYING BLEEDING FUCK? How can he even do that? Tell the universities to send money back?

As for pet issues: space. Some help with promoting private space travel, and money with a very firm kick in the ass for NASA and an emergency infusion of lots of new blood. The money will be wasted without that kick, and without the entrenched bureaucratic setup being shaken up by a lot of young people who won't take stupid and downright wrong crap the kick will be forgotten within days.

Yes, it was the first damned thing he did after the election. Took something along the order of $173,000,000 from all the public universities in the state. Our share came to something like $7 million, though I could be off on either one of those numbers.

At least Fletcher's opponent won his (Fletcher's) old Congressional seat.
Ben Chandler is a Democrat I could support.

Indeed. I was still registered to vote in Indiana at the time, something that I kick myself for not changing in time for the gubernatorial election. If there was one thing Fletcher could have done to actually mobilize university students to go to the polls in droves come next time he's up for reelection, cutting into the scholarship funds and making the universities raise textbook prices like that was it...

Whenever these topics are brought up, I'm tempted to butt in:

-Issues related to morality (censorship, gay rights, and things like that)

-Urban legends that people believe are true (I don't know how the myth of Fred Rogers being a sniper during the Vietnam War came to be, and why so many people believe it, but they just do)

-Conspiracy theories or outrageous claims that people treat as legitimate

-Nuclear energy

-Evolution

Basically, I argue for stuff that I feel I can easily defend, and have a disturbingly high number of people subscribing to the side I oppose.

The bizarre media habit of always calling DC 'Washington.' 'DC' or 'the Capitol' are both easier to say and aren't also the name of an entire fucking state.

Gay marriage. Specifically, why people won't admit that they just don't like gays and instead come up with all manner of bullshit excuses.
