Moscow police discovered two landmines and 200g TNT inside a car which was parked next to a road often used by government officials. The driver was arrested, but died of a heart attack.

The story was on German news just now, but I wasn't able to find it on English sites, so here is the link from the German news site:

There are some interesting ponits to this: Russian officials claim this was an attack on the international conference of mayors, which ended friday evening. So if the bomb was placed there friday and they only discovered it now, how did they get the driver? Why did the driver die of a "heart attack"? Could it be because he was accidentally connected to a car battery during interrogation?

Quite possibly on the last one, but according to our main news, the driver was stopped because of erratic driving and turned out to be seriously high on some drugs, so he could very well have died of complications related to that, especialy if they were rough with him. And iirc it was 200 kg of TNT, not 200 g. The driver had been paid $1000 to park the car and leave it along one of Moscow's main streets, so if they hadn't gotten him, the results would likely have been ugly when whoever is behind this showed up and put his plans in motion..

Russian officials say police in Moscow have defused a car bomb that was to be placed along a road often used by government officials.

Authorities say they stopped a man they had become suspicious of early Saturday in the Russian capital and found he was driving a car wired with explosives.

Police say the driver appeared to be intoxicated and told them he had been paid $1,000 to park cars packed with explosives along the street.

The Itar-Tass news agency quotes the man as saying the explosives were to have been set off as participants in an international mayors' conference approached.

Itar-Tass says the 38-year-old man was from the St. Petersburg area. News agency reports say he later died of a heart attack.

Russia has been on alert following a series of recent terrorist attacks, including a school siege that killed at least 338 people, scores of them children.

Russian sources say the man died from a heart attack caused by a drug overdose. He had this heart attack during his interrogation. Is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

No, that they went a bit too far during his tor...interrogation and he died.

Drug interactions are always a bitch to determine, especially if they didn't know what and how much he had taken previously. I doubt there were doctors present during his interrogation, they always bitch about their hippocratic oath; so if some "interrogation technician" injected him with a normally non-lethal dose of some drug it might have interacted with the other substances in his blood, creating really bad side-effects.

Or they just slammed his head against the table one too many times.
