Brit hostage efforts

Interesting developments.
First, there is confusion over the status of efforts to free the hostages, with the Iraqi Govt saying that one of the female scientists is up for parole, then this is denied by US authorities. All hell breaks loose in the Brit media. In the middle of all this, the second US hostage is murdered. Now Allawi is hardening his postion in line with the US military.

Then there is a leafletting effort going on in Baghdad, then there is a Brit Muslim delegation flying into Baghdad to help.

Q 1 - What efforts were made to free the hostages outside of Brit sources?
Q 2 - is this a spin?

Whilst I know there is another thread on this, I feel that this is a summary-> moving on with the sitution post - as I am posting this whilst Newsnight is analysing the situation.
