Now the senate is still being decided and last I checked one of the last Tassie seats was being contested by Christine Milne (aka Evil Green Bitch) and a Family First candidate (aka Evil Fundie Bitch).

Now this is a case of the lesser of two evils and though it tears my still beating heart from my chest to say it, I hope Christine Milne wins out here as at least I can sympathise with SOME of her policies.

Meanwhile however its clear that Howard now has control of the senate and the lower house so the Chaser is especially accurate when it says: "With the Australian elections now over, its just a short wait to the Nov 2 US presidential election when we discover who the next leader of Australia will be."

With such a big majority in the senate already, maybe putting Family First in there wouldn't be too bad, at least they wouldn't hold the balance of power and Christine Milne would be out on her arse once more....

I thought he only had 38 certaian seats in the senate, or have the Nationals won the last Queensland seat already?

I get the feeling that this victory could either make or break the Liberal party, because on the one hand, anything good that happens they can take full credit for, but on the other hand, anything bad that happens will fall completely on their shoulders.

A part of me's annoyed that the new Senate doesn't get sworn in until next year. The US is thinking of pulling out of the Free Trade Deal because of Mark Latham's stupid amendments.

I've followed that story a little bit. Of what amendments do you speak?

The pharmaceutical ones. From what I've heard, they're very minor, and John Howard doesn't think they'll change much for Australians, but Mark Latham insists that without the amendments, the PBS will collapse, which seemed like bullshit for me.

Then again, I wouldn't listen to my opinion. I voted Liberal.

If you think the FTA is a good thing for Australia, it explains why you voted Liberal. I *KNEW* there had to be real Liberal voters somewhere...

I'm certain that there will be drawbacks (especially short term) for Australia because of the free trade agreement, but I also believe that with more competitive markets, Australian industry will become more efficient and in the long run our economy will be much better off with the FTA than without it.

I see absoluterly no reason why the government should offer incentives for people to run their businesses poorly. Gross inefficiency is for the public sector, not the private sector.

Democracy would suck if the alternative wasn't the possibility of having, say, Stalin or Hitler. As it stands, it's ok, I guess.
