The SDNet 2004 Presidential Endorsement Thread

Post by Joe »

The last four years have passed by quickly, and so does another Presidential election come upon us - perhaps the most important Presidential election of our lifetimes - for both Americans and also for the rest of the world. These last few months have been interesting and certainly unforgettable; it's hard to recall an election when such bitterness has come from the mouths of partisans on both sides, or a time when the nation has been so divided since the Vietnam War. We have had multiple threads in this forum devoted to this election, but they tend to be focused on more specific issues related to the candidates and the election rather than the big picture. So I feel at this time that it would be enriching and perhaps therapeutic to have this thread be a place for everyone who plans on voting, or not voting, or lives in a different country and can't vote, or for any other reason has an interest in this election to come out in favor of either Bush, Kerry, one of the third party candidates, or even abstenation, and explain his or her position in some detail so we can all get a better understanding of each other.

Please do not turn this thread into a Bush or Kerry-bashing fest; obviously you should feel free to criticize either candidate if that's required for you to make your case for either man, but try and keep it as civil as possible and don't overdo it. Also, I'd request that you keep the discussion to a minimum - there will be plenty of discussion threads throughout the day, and I would like this thread to be more like a series of op-ed columns by the various members of the board than an actual discussion. Please take the time to respond to this thread if you have something to say, even though there isn't a lot of time left between now and the election. Non-Americans are obviously welcome.

I have to go to sleep now, but I'll try and post my statement of position tomorrow.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
