Frankly, I often wonder if Reagan's death robbed Kerry of being able to portray himself as a better Senator - specifically as a public "watchdog."
Before he ran for President, one of Kerry's most notable achivements in the Senate was his participation in the Iran-CONTRA inquiries. But had he pressed that role, it might have come off as a cheap shop on a dead President who couldn't properly defend himself.
Does anybody else agree?
Granted this was minor; Kerry's biggest problem was always stalling for so long before adopting a clear response to Bush's issues. The Republicans merely had to raise the question of Kerry's indeciveness and undeservedness to create an impact.
Kerry's positions too complex for most voters?
