They wouldn't drive around armed unless they planned on using their load, and I just don't see it in LA, especially these nutballs. Also, I'm not familar with procedure for those but would they actually be carrying live ammo? I suppose it would depend on what they are doing but if not then this "deadly force" situation is ironic because those in the vehicle were probably in more danger from the crowd. LOL

There's two threads there on this --one actually semi-rational and the other one blathering something about Kent state.Rogue 9 wrote: *Wonders what DU is doing with this, and what they'd think of the turn this thread is taking.*
This is from the LA Indymedia site:
I wasn't there at the Tuesday night demonstration in Westwood, but I
did do some follow-up investigation this morning about the two armored
vehicles.
Turns out the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration was having a
Veterans Day parade and celebration this morning (Wednesday). I drove
over and walked in to the WLA VA to look around at 10:50am.
Lots of marching middle school ROTC "cadets" (including
11-to-14-year-old boys and girls from Mt. Vernon Middle School all in
US Army uniform, some shouldering parade "rifles") and a high school
band and antique cars filled with VAFW members. And two USMC Striker
armored vehicles complete with 6 or 7 Marines in fatigues and body
armor giving junior high ROTC kids and adults tours of the vehicles.
I talked to one Marine with one of the "Striker" vehicles. He told me
they had driven the vehicles up from Camp Pendleton the night before
(Tuesday) on the freeway. Getting off the 405 Freeway going north, they
would have passed Wilshire and Veteran where ANSWER had called a rally
to protest the attack on Fallujah in Iraq.
I asked him if he was "rolling around Westwood" Tuesday night. He said,
"Yeah, and we drove past that anti-war demonstration. We was lost.
We're not from L.A. We didn't know where this place (WLA VA) was. We
were trying to find it."
"Did you drive around the block twice?" I asked.
"Yeah, we did. We stopped to ask them (the protestors) directions, but
they weren't very nice."
There was more conversation, but that was the gist of it from the
Marine side concerning the armored vehicles. For what it's worth.
I've also been receiving emails from friends who were at Tuesday
evening's Westwood demostration. They report that the LAPD officers
said they had no idea why the two armored vehicles had appeared and
then disappeared.

Asking for directions and they run into some anti-war protestors?

They still don't look like Strykers to me. None of the ones shown in the GM/GDLS brochure have that kind of turret. The closest would probably be the Mobile Gun System version, which is the only with that turret shape, but the gun itself doesn't look right. The Stryker Brigade Combat Team has a website with pictures of all variants (I think they're the same as from the GM/GDLS Brochure, but larger). If they are Strykers, they're almost definitely Stryker MGS, but I still think they look more like LAVs of some sort.

dear lord, are people really that crazy!?!?! It was a minor anti war protest. No one gave a fuck about it. So I doubt it was even remotely high enough priority to send the military in.

Sadly, I think you KNOW what the U.S. has become. Our democracy is dead. We are now a fascist country, where peaceful protesting can get you killed. It's only a matter of time now, before a protester gets killed. It's not "if", but "when". And when that happens, I think you'll see the country erupt into violence, like a match thrown into a pool of gasoline. Frankly, I will welcome that outcome, because this country isn't worth shit the way it is now.

Jesus christ. This is just another example of selective thought process. We all see a Stryker sitting there harmlessly, maybe even there to protest against the protesters. However, they see vehicles deployed to their location to put them down. (Funny how these deployed vehicles just abandoned their mission)RogueIce wrote:That last sentence scares me. That Blogger is an idiot. He's claiming the "tanks" (for the love of christ man at least learn what a real fucking tanks looks like... pansy) were using deadly force on the protestors. What kind of shit do you have to replace your brain with to screw up the defination of deadly force? It's as if he trying to be the biggest shit eating moron on the planet.
