I think the Americans have done well to make the best out of their mistake in this case, although as I've said many time before, the "let's help bring freedom to the world" rhetoric is just an ad hoc justification slapped on top of a war that was started for vastly different reasons. Nevertheless, one can only hope that the Americans and Iraqis can salvage what happened and make the best out of it. Far too many people have been killed or maimed to walk away without something positive.
