I've also heard on other message boards that the 72% figure refers to registered voters. However, IIRC, there were 14 million registered voters in Iraq, out of a population of around 22 million.

Correct, meaning that if you believe the 72% figure then between 12 and 10 million actually voted--that's really good. If you believe their more recent estimate of about 60%, then you get almost 8.5 million, which also seems to be inline with the more recent numerical tallies.

If only I wasn't already banned from DU, I'd totally post that information there.

I still have a sleeper account there, but posting that information there would probably be grounds for a ban.

Yeah. If you go into the threads I linked and scroll down, you'll see blank posts where the moderators repressed dissenting opinion. In said blank posts, they insert a link to the rules. From said rules, we get this:
WHO IS WELCOME ON DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND, AND WHO IS NOT

We welcome Democrats of all stripes, along with other progressives who will work with us to achieve our shared goals.

This is a "big tent" message board. We welcome a wide range of progressive opinion. You will likely encounter many points of view here that you disagree with.

We ban conservative disruptors who are opposed to the broad goals of this website. If you think overall that George W. Bush is doing a swell job, or if you wish to see Republicans win, or if you are generally supportive of conservative ideals, please do not register to post, as you will likely be banned.

If you have been banned from Democratic Underground, you are not permitted to log on again using a different username. Previously banned members will be immediately banned, regardless of behavior.

People who repeatedly and willfully break the rules, or who generally engage in rude, antisocial behavior, will be banned. It doesn't matter if you are a progressive or a long-term member of this board.
Simply put, they ban those who post against the Democratic party line.

Don't know about the former. The latter hardly at all; I only remember two bannings in rapid succession, and that was for "treason" against the organization. There are card carrying Communists running around the Protest Warrior board with no moderator reprisals. In fact, there are no moderators. Just a large swarm of young, dumb conservatives who mob you if you step out of line. :P

I would really love to wire up the world and see a DU vs. Freepers & PW debate. That would be awesome, and Republicans would win.

There are some really good posters over at the DU boards, and I love reading 'Ask Auntie Pinko'.
Too bad the good posters are pretty much drowned out by the idiot brigade.

I don't see why. All a clever Democrat has to do is concede that they're making the best of a bad situation by trying to salvage Shrubby's clusterfuck into a positive development for the people of Iraq, and then go on the offensive by hammering away at Shrubby's dishonesty in changing his justifications for war repeatedly. Since hardcore Bush supporters can't help but take the bait when someone challenges his honesty, it shouldn't be too hard to maneuver them into the usual "Bush has never deceived anyone" stupidity which traps them every time.

Hey, at least they're honest about it. Freakrepublic will ban most people who don't bow to their false god even if they are also conservatives.
