I'm sure Saddam was a megalomaniac, but I really doubt that even he would have made such a stupid and suicidal move. Bush tried to make the case that Iraq, a broken country with little in the way of infrastructure, suddenly became a threat. How ridiculous is that?
This is the real point. If Iraq, or anybody else had in fact attack us, (like Afghanistan did) then they could expect the same or worse than Afghanistan got. Conquered at best, annihilated at worst
The fear was that they would give them to "the terrorists".

People who think this way do not seem to realize what a large proportion of a third world country's budget would be required in order to produce a single working nuclear weapon. The idea that they would just give them away to groups over which they have no control is just preposterous on many levels: not just economic but also in terms of self-interest. Would Americans give nuclear weapons to radical white-supremacist terror groups who hate Islam, working on the presumption that the enemy of my enemy is my friend? If not, then why do they think Iranians or Iraqis would do something similar?

The greatest nuclear terrorism threat by far is from the combination of nuclear weapons and political instability, not a strong-arm government gaining a nuke.

Yeah, but John Q. Trailerpark doesn't understand that or even care to.

I could see a danger of a country like Iraq that may have something like a weaponized smallpox giving that to a terrorist organization to use against the west. Of course since they aren't stupid they would likely recognize that it could just as easily be used on them, and even worse could be traced back to them which would result in their total annihilation.

Because they're just stupid sand-niggers who don't value life like we do, of course.
