U.S. lying about 9/11 attacks, Castro writes
By Michael Martinez | Tribune correspondent

HAVANA - Fidel Castro accused the U.S. government Wednesday of deceiving Americans about the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and suggested a weapons projectile, not a plane, slammed into the Pentagon.
In one of the rambling newspaper columns he writes regularly since he became ill, the Cuban leader also claimed that "today, we know that the public was deliberately misinformed."
"An analysis of the impact of planes similar to those against the [World Trade Center] towers, following accidental plane crashes in densely populated cities, concludes that no plane crashed against the Pentagon and that only a projectile could have created the geometrically round hole that the alleged plane created," Castro said in the Granma column.
"No passenger that perished there has turned up, either," Castro continued in a commentary titled "The Empire and Its Lies." "We were deceived, as were the rest of the planet's inhabitants."
Castro hasn't been seen in public since undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in July 2006, but he maintains a presence through occasional writings called "Reflections."
In 2004, the 9/11 Commission concluded that an Al Qaeda plot orchestrated the two commercial airplane attacks against the World Trade Center and a single commercial plane attack against the Pentagon.
Castro also said in his column that the Cuban government saved the life of President Ronald Reagan in 1984 by alerting U.S. officials to an assassination plot in North Carolina, The Associated Press reported. He did not say how Cuba obtained the information.
Newsom Summerlin, a special agent with the FBI in Charlotte, said late Wednesday that he had no immediate information pertaining to Castro's claim.

Fidel would say anything to anger the US. It's not as if he cares one way or other, me thinks, but it's useful for his political goals.
A lot of politicians use the 9/11 conspiracy theories to boost their own prestige and gain a ground to criticize America.
I guess the Iraq invasion wasn't enough for them, so they use fairy tales as well.

This and that bit about how Cuba stopped an assassination attempt on Reagan, articles allegedly written by Fidel Castro, lead me to believe that the guy is dead
Or, at least, the Cuban government is ghostwriting for him, writing dumb articles and stuff and claiming it's from Castro.

I doubt Castro is dead. After all, recently he wrote a rather smart article on bioethanol. I've read and heard a lot of Castro speeches, and this is most probably his own one, since it's too good for ghostwriters:

I seriously wonder about the side effects of whatever medication Castro is taking after his surgery. Is he high or something? Is that the reason he's making such claims?Castro also said in his column that the Cuban government saved the life of President Ronald Reagan in 1984 by alerting U.S. officials to an assassination plot in North Carolina, The Associated Press reported. Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Are you suggesting that Castro is the best writer in the whole of Cuba?Stas Bush wrote:I doubt Castro is dead. After all, recently he wrote a rather smart article on bioethanol. No, I just think that this article has been written by Castro proper due to it's style and manner looking like other Castro articles. I'm not sure whether those other pieces were ghostwritten. Besides, there was a video of him recently released. Of course, if his condition is really as bad as some think it is, it's doubtful he'd take a major part in writing recent speeches. Are you suggesting that Castro is the best writer in the whole of Cuba?

Doesn't Castro have more pressing priorities? Granted, he has his brother to help run Cuba, but he should at least be opening clinics and schools as well.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

Good plan, especially since it's probably the dammed sanctions why Castro is still in power. Every other jerk-off commie we didn't like except North Korea has bowed before the might of Mickey D.Wicked Pilot wrote:Fuck 'em. I say we raise the sanctions and unleash McDonald's on them. Castro is either acting nuts, or trying to piss people off, eitehr case, does it really matter?
Side note: Does anyone else find it ironic that in the past 50 years we've normalized realtions with China, Vietnam, the former Soviet Union and the states created by it's break-up, and if I recall, Libya is getting pretty close. How many US citizans were killed by actions taken directly or indirectly by those countries compaired to Cuba? Hell at the current rate we'll be best freinds with Dear Leader and North Korea before Cuba.

Much more. Vietnam, IIRC, took the largest toll of American lives (of course, that number is incomparable to the mountain of civilian casualties in Vietnam and Laos caused by US bombing campaigns...), but anyway, US managed to normalize relations with them all.How many US citizans were killed by actions taken directly or indirectly by those countries compaired to Cuba?
And the Cuban embargo is nonsense. It perpetuates anti-US sentiments on Cuba proper on one hand, on the other hand it strangles the Cuban economy.
It only holds because of the Florida lobby in American politics.

Fixed for you. Most of Florida doesn't care one way or the other, and quite a few would prefer normalized relations with Cuba. The embargo divides families between those who left and those who remained behind, harms the economies of both Cuba and Florida, and becomes increasingly anachronistic as we deal with Red China.Stas Bush wrote:And the Cuban embargo is nonsense. It only holds because of the fraction of the Cuban exile community lobby in American politics.
