That'd never work, because Average Joe would still panic at the sight of anything that looks like a bomb or gun and promptly run away leaving the bomber with noone to blow up.

Infrastructure doesn't count for anything anymore? Slow-moving people don't count for anything anymore? How about people who are looking the other way?

In fact, if you're relying on people to do the screening instead of security, why have security at all?

Just assume that what this girl had was indeed a bomb and the entire thing a attempt at looking "so utterly pathetic and amateurish": Yet the girl was stopped by security without causing a panic. Apparently Average Joe will not panic when sombody tries something like this.

And even when, what is your suggestion for airport security?
"Oh, look this guy is behaving strange."
"No way that's a terrorist! Far to pathetic and amateurish to be one, just let him pass..."
