Because doesn't Blair have a lot of street cred for things not related to Iraq? Like his role in resolving the Northern Ireland thing?

Indeed, and for a British Prime Minister he was very pro-European, certainly in comparison to his more famous early incarnation the dreaded Iron lady who earned a lot of enemies in Europe, for better or for worse.

I don't want an EU president and I do not want it to be Tony fucking Blair.
