As was pointed out earlier, the Argentine motive was a quick military victory to quell dissent at home. On the UK side, winning the Falklands provided a major morale boost at home at a time when the UK was emerging from a period of major recession (largely due to horifically incompetent Labour rule), considerably enhanced the country's international standing and gave the 1980s (partial) rebuilding of the military a kick start.
