It's not the Jewish vote that is the big deal with the pro-Israeli lobby, its the Rapture Christians whose prophecy requires the state of Israel to exist so everyone (except for the good Christians) can be destroyed in the global disaster. They have a lot of votes. The Jewish vote is just icing on the cake. It really is a marriage made in hell.

I think the issue is Israel's policy of "nuclear ambiguity," which means there's a shortage of solid data on Israel's supposed nuclear arsenal, which means jackass political commentators can claim, "Israel is a peaceful nation! It doesn't have... plans to use nukes against its neighbors!"

Israel has never officially admitted to having nuclear weapons, instead repeating over the years that it would not be the first country to "introduce" nuclear weapons to the Middle East, leaving ambiguous whether it means it will not create or will not use the weapons.

Interpret that as you will.

It's the rough equivalent of the United States putting much of its nuclear deterrent in Montana and the Dakotas. That way the only important thing lost if they are targeted is are the nukes themselves.

Really the main reason is that the approaches to the Faslane base is one of the better ones to defend against conventional attack. The USN had a base nearby in the Holy Loch for a number of years.
