Will you violate human rights to ensure stability?
Let's say you are in charge of a any 3rd world country (like most african nations for example, and if you are the leader, will you violate any human rights just to ensure stability for your country?
If the country is like Iraq where ethnic groups or religious factions are more than happy to kill each other, or having a civil war on your hands.

Man, you seriously need a limit on how many semi retarded hypothetical questions you get post.ray245 wrote:Let's say you are in charge of a any 3rd world country (like most african nations for example, and if you are the leader, will you violate any human rights just to ensure stability for your country?

Of course I would (and I know that sounds awful, but when you happen to be a "country" riven with divisions, stability can go a long way in promoting economic growth. Just ask Mexico).ray245 wrote:Let's say you are in charge of a any 3rd world country (like most african nations for example, and if you are the leader, will you violate any human rights just to ensure stability for your country?

However, it doesn't necessarily have to be a totally violent suppression of human rights. I'd prefer to take the PRI route, and see if I could buy off my rivals before simply killing them.

Hell yes. Not only would I violate human rights, I'd violate ALL human rights. I'd start by banning speech. Not free speech, just speech in general. Anyone who speaks without a permit is thrown on The Pile. Incidently, the speech permit comes with an oral exam to prove you can speak. It is conducted next to The Pile.
Pretty much all day I'll sit in my solid good palace which I built from mercilessly oppressing my peasants on a throne made of human skulls thinking of new ways to torment, degrade, and eventually kill them. Basically, it will be like when I play SimCity.

I'd get more entertainment from arbitrarily caning anyone who says something that I find stupid.Gil Hamilton wrote:Hell yes. Not only would I violate human rights, I'd violate ALL human rights. You forgot something..... The equality of human rights= stability. When human rights are restricted or infringed, you're going to get an unstable country, even though the opposite isn't true.ray245 wrote:Let's say you are in charge of a any 3rd world country (like most african nations for example, and if you are the leader, will you violate any human rights just to ensure stability for your country?

Let him land on any Lyran world to taste firsthand the wrath of peace loving people thwarted by the myopic greed of a few miserly old farts- Katrina Steiner
It's an easy choice. If I suddenly become the dictator of an already unstable third world country, chances are that there are already massive human rights abuses going on. If I clamp down enough to provide what is necessary (food, shelter, work), then I'm already improving quality of life and human rights, and we can worry about restoring the remainder of the rights later, once the people are no longer worried about getting butchered by a rival ethnic group or religious sect.
What? I'm not doing this as a joke or anything. I mean, somehow, I have problems with finding out how people will view my ideas, which is why I posted some of them.Stas Bush wrote:Ray, would you stop doing what basically amounts to trolling N&P? This is not the first time you do this, but really, it's boring.
The idea or concept of asking such question may be a stupid one, but it's better than not knowing if that is a stupid or clever ideas in the mind of others, right?
Why do people thinks that I'm joking?
Ray, while I cannot answer for Stas, for me the answer is because somewhere along the way you turned from "ignoramus extraordinaire" to "the-guy-whose-posts-most-people-do-not-even-bother-to-read-because-they-know-it-will-be-a-waste-of-their-time"
Seriously, every "question" you brought up here has revealed nothing but a lack of knowledge and dare I say it, intelligence.
Also, your posts are very hard to read due to your poor english and some people (me included) have a very hard time trying to even understand what you are trying to say.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

I would say I agree with Thanas fully. Ray, the problem is you contribute little with your questions, and most of them have an "answer is obvious" type, like the "China and democracy" one recently.

Well, at times, I can't really tell if the question is a a obvious one to others. Maybe I have a weakness in seeing the obvious. Somehow, I just CAN'T see the obvious ( not all the time) . Lots of my friends have told me about this issue as well.Stas Bush wrote:I would say I agree with Thanas fully. I just want to let you all know that depsite what some of you may think, I'm really not trolling.
As for my poor english, sigh. I'm really trying my best to improve but having a class that prefer to speak and use chinese most of the time isn't helping.
I have zero problem is understanding what you guys are writing and all, but somehow, I really can't see how clear or unclear my writing is. ( and my grammar is HORRIBLE whenever I start writing a long post or essay)
Perhaps the issue is really about me having a hard time in expressing my thoughts in words?
Another issue is, I can't tell if people like Lancer or Gil Hamilton is being serious or joking at times with them being willing to violate human rights.
On other forums, people are so averse to violating human rights even if they are in a 3rd world country.
So I really can't tell if the question is a simple or hard one, when different groups of people respond differently.
