Breaking News: 6.8 Earthquake Hits Japan near Tokyo

Post by Sephirius »

CNN has just put up a breaking news banner about this, they say that the quake's epicenter was only 100 miles from Tokyo.

I'll try and keep it you up to date on this as soon as an actual story is available.

Could this be the build up to the big one? Or will the pressure have been eased on the fault? Oh, to be a seismologist right now.

Let's hope all that engineering genius that went into building all those "Earthquake Proof" Japanese skyscrapers pays off.

Let's hope it pays off better than last time, anyway.

Earthquakes like this are good. It lets off the pressure and stress in managable ways, instead of building up for a 7.2 city-leveller.

THat's not really a story so much as a website for tracking them.

But it is pretty sweet nonetheless. There are two right on top of one another. The 6.8 and another 5.0 that happened like 2 hours later

I am the hammer, I am the right hand of my Lord. The instrument of His will and the gauntlet about His fist. The tip of His spear, the edge of His sword. I am His wrath just as he is my shield. I am the bane of His foes and the woe of the treacherous. I am the end.

That's really not the right kind of fault for that. For that sort of thing you need a lateral, san-andreas style fault. Not a compression load.
