Federal Indictment in MySpace Suicide

Post by Kanastrous »

LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles federal grand jury indicted a Missouri woman on Thursday for her alleged role in a MySpace online hoax played on a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide.

Lori Drew of suburban St. Louis was indicted on one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization to obtain information to inflict emotional distress.

Drew allegedly helped create a false-identity MySpace account to contact neighbor Megan Meier who thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy named Josh Evans.

Meier hanged herself in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages, including one stating the world would be better off without her.

Drew, 49, has denied creating the account and sending messages to Megan.

MySpace is based in Beverly Hills.

This breaking news story will be updated.

Great! I hope the bitch burns, because this kind of petty criminality should rate extreme punishment. No grown woman should go to such lengths to torture a child, and the state should go to great lengths back to punish her.
A teenage girl is just a teenage boy who can get laid.

What... the... hell?

Forty-nine years old, and *this* is what she does with her time? I don't know exactly what should be done. I mean, yeah, she's arguably less mature than the 13 year old for doing this, but she didn't go out and murder the kid, the kid did that to herself. I guess you could make a case for giving her a good slap and telling her to grow the fuck up, but I think it's a bit late for that anyways.

Anyways, I doubt that this was the only thing that caused the kid to kill herself. I'm guessing she had quite a few things that probably should have been caught and treated a lot sooner to prevent something like this from happening. Yeah, the older woman's an immature twit, but the blame for the kid's death can't really be laid at her feet.

Well, they aren't charging her with manslaughter. Just conspiracy and illicit access with intent to inflict emotional distress.

I went to the Middle School Meier and the other girl went to. The kids she hung out with were the worst of the worst. They created an environment that made the girl tense and stressed out.

You're correct, she was a chunkier girl who was in a popular group because she made the other girls look good. She as made fun of because of her weight and her penchant for wearing too small of clothes. She was moved to a Catholic school nearby but she hung herself after still meeting up with the bullying friends.
