I just hope it is a long lasting one.
What the fuck is that even supposed to mean? You want the disaster to linger as long as possible? Or am I missing something here? :wtf:

I think he wants the "working together" part to last longer.

That's what I'm hoping he means but given ray's typical idiocy it's hard to tell.

Let's go by his history of epicfailular stupidity and make the safe assumption that it's the disaster.

Xinhua wrote: Donations to China quake zone hit 3.175 bln yuan

BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- China has received 3.175 billion yuan (454 million U.S. dollars) in cash and goods for earthquake relief from donors at home and abroad as of 4 p.m. Friday, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA).

Domestic donations reached 2.59 billion yuan, nearly double the figure on Thursday, while 19 foreign governments and four international organizations contributed 580 million yuan in cash and goods, a statement from the ministry said.

The MCA had received donations of 102 million yuan and the China Charity Federation had received about 240 million yuan.

Local governments, domestic companies and social institutions had donated 1.63 billion yuan to the affected areas.

The Red Cross Society of China received 625 million yuan in cash and goods, according to the MCA. However, the Red Cross Society of China announced it had received 1.15 billion yuan as of midday on Friday from home and abroad, and had delivered 223 million yuan in cash and goods to affected areas.

Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT), said on Friday he would donate 1 million yuan worth of quilted coats and 2.5 million yuan in cash to earthquake-affected areas in Sichuan, according to the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Chinese living abroad had donated relief supplies and cash valued at 160 million yuan (23 million U.S. dollars) to quake-hit regions, figures from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council showed.

Donations to the quake victims from the public and companies in Macao had reached 34 million patacas (4 million U.S. dollars) by Wednesday.

Taiwan TV stations and Red Cross organizations will stage a concert to raise donations for quake-hit regions on Sunday.

China state television company, China Central Television (CCTV),will broadcast a major fund-raising program on Sunday evening featuring celebrities from cultural, artistic and sports circles.

The disaster relief fund from the central budget rose to 3.41 billion yuan on Friday, up 1.17 billion yuan from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Finance.

The 7.8-magnitude quake, centered on Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province, affected many parts of the country. The death toll nationwide hit 22,069 nationwide as of 2 p.m. Friday, while 168,669 people were injured.

Sorry dickshit, but you fail at even that.

As an aside, I'm hearing reports that Chinese citizens are hauling heavy equipment to the disaster zone on their own volition and NOT being blocked from doing so by the ChiCom gov, unlike what happened to a certain city in America three summers ago. At least now we know unequivocally that as far as disaster response, America fails hard compared to even China. China still has a ways to go in construction due to the fact a lot of schools were built out of fucking tofu!

And so because various building contractors were corrupt and cut corners, China has literally lost an entire generation in Sichuan.

It's sad, but I think that this is an important part in how nations learn to deal with these things, from now on I would expect there to be big improvements in buildingstandards in respect to earthquakes all over China.

In China, corruption is punishable by execution. I have a feeling that a lot of those building contractors, especially the ones who built the schools, are going to be in front of a firing squad pretty soon.

The death toll has been upped to 29k, last time I checked the Beeb hours ago... (judging by how the toll is rising, for all I know it'd have been upped by a lot since then...).

Last time I heard, the Chinese government was also asking for shovels from locals and private citizens... :(

It's a truly shitty thing. First, second or third world, when shit hits the fan, sometimes you really can't be totally prepared for calamities like this (and Katrina, and the tsunami, etc.).

Corruption is widespread in China - it's not a matter of who does it, but who gets caught.

Somehow, that doesn't compensate for the real loss. Remember, China has a one child policy. They did literally lose an entire generation.

Doesn't matter who gets caught. It's a matter of whose political master is in for the chopping board.
