The joys of Western Australian politics

Buswell 'groaned' while sniffing chair
The woman at the centre of the seat-sniffing scandal involving West Australian Opposition Leader Troy Buswell says he writhed in mock sexual pleasure during the incident.
The woman, who remains unnamed, told The West Australian newspaper that Mr Buswell sniffed her chair twice within 10 minutes, while groaning and making "sexually satisfying noises".

Mr Buswell has admitted sniffing the seat of the Liberal female staffer in an office at Perth's Parliament House in October 2005.
On Tuesday he survived a Liberal party room move to dump him in the wake of the scandal.
The woman was reported by The West Australian as saying that Mr Buswell placed a chair on his head twice within 10 minutes, sniffing it before writhing in mock sexual ecstasy.
"We finished the meeting (with a constituent), I walked the bloke downstairs and out of parliament, and when I got back I walked into the room to pick up my notepad from the desk and Buswell started grabbing the chairs going 'aahww, which one did you sit in? I'll be able to tell'," she said.
"And then he picked them up and started sniffing them and groaning and making sexually satisfying noises. I went, 'you're sick, knock it off', and grabbed my staff and walked out, but he didn't pay attention to a word I said."
The woman said she was standing with colleagues about 10 minutes later when one of them knocked on Mr Buswell's door to ask one of his staff to lunch.
"Buswell opened the door really wide, grabbed a chair and started sniffing it, lifted it above his head sniffing it and breathing in, going 'aaww yeah'," the woman said.
"It was awful. My colleagues, the four men I worked with, were just stunned into silence."
Mr Buswell, who is set to lead the Liberal Party to the next election after surviving Tuesday's party room meeting, says he considered resigning over the incident and its aftermath.
"I have given that consideration," he told Fairfax Network radio.
"It's been a difficult week for me personally, but as I say that would shade into insignificance compared to the impact on the lady concerned.
"It would've been extremely difficult for her. It's been a difficult week for my family and my colleagues, and of course I gave that consideration."

I've been waiting for someone to bring this up.

Since then it has come out that he also snapped the bra strap of a female MP and squirrel-gripped a male MP.

And being WA, he's probably doing nothing more than firming up his re-election.

Why surprised about Buswell not losing his job? Whats the alternative? A man who shot his own son (albeit it was an example of negligence rather than malice) and a few has beens.

I am also not surprise that moral outrage maintain by the Liberals wouldn't be enough to oust him, since I learnt long ago, a lot of social conservatives are immoral even by the standards they purport to uphold.

But Liberal apologists will be having their day in the sun trying desperately to explain why there is no difference between Troy Buswell's sexually harassing a female staffer and Kevin Rudd visiting a strip club. Oh wait, they already did.

And Ando. You are confusing the leader of the opposition with the Premier. Our premier is accused of snapping the bra strap of a fellow MP (Buswell did it to a female staffer). Of course the other MP did not deny it, only said she wasn't offended (which many people interpret as power play within the ALP to get her pre selected into a safer seat).

Meanwhile the Victorian Libs are busy purging traitors [read: getting rid of people who have realised Bailieu is shit] from the ranks, whilst the Nats and Liberals jolt towards a merger in Queensland.

It's a grand time to be left wing.

I love the smell of September in the morning. Once we got off at Richmond, walked up to the 'G, and there was no game on. Not one footballer in sight. But that cut grass smell, spring rain...it smelt like victory.

Dynamic. When [Kuznetsov] decided he was going to make a difference, he did it...Like Ovechkin...then you find out - he's with Washington too? You're kidding.

Is that what I think it is?

For a moment there, I thought I had misread those last few words.

It was a close run thing though wasn't it?

Holy shit. Between this and Cardboard Rudd... what the hell is wrong with Australian politics? Being crotch-grabbed by a prominent politician of a prominent political party would be very... uncomfortable.

Didn't one of the MPs punch another one recently?

Or is that phenomenon still restricted to Asia? If so, why the fuck haven't we imported it? It'd sure as hell liven up Question Time.

Your thinking of the South Korea and Taiwan Parliaments which are less governing bodies than franchises of the WWF.

Complete with sandwich throwing, Sneak Attacks, surprise clotheslines and signature moves. The only thing that's not true to form is the intro music, apparently it's presumptuous in Asian culture.

Sometimes I wonder if our politicians couldn't take their jobs little less seriously and would just beat the shit out of each other, that seems to be the way other countries' politicians release pent up aggression without starting wars. :?
