Hillary cites Rove as a reason to stay

Post by Coriolis »

CNN wrote:PRESTONSBURG, Kentucky (CNN) – Hillary Clinton defended her reasoning for staying in the presidential race Monday afternoon by pointing out that Karl Rove's analysis shows her to be the strongest candidate against John McCain in November.

“There has been a lot of analysis about which of us is stronger to win against Sen. McCain, and I believe I am the stronger candidate,” said Clinton, repeating a line from her stump speech.

Then she veered from her usual argument.

“Just today I found some curious support for that position when one of the TV networks released an analysis done by - of all people - Karl Rove, saying that I was the stronger candidate,” said Clinton. “Somebody go a hold of his analysis and there it is.”

Clinton was referring to electoral maps drawn up by Karl Rove’s consulting firm that were obtained by ABC and forecast her currently leading McCain in the electoral college by 53 votes (259-206), while Obama trails McCain by 17 (238-221)

270 electoral votes are needed to win November’s election.

Clinton continued to push for Florida and Michigan’s delegates to be seated but said that even if that happens, the race won’t be over.

“Once we include Florida and Michigan, neither Sen. Obama nor I will have enough delegates to get the nomination so there is no way that this is going to end any time soon because we’re going to keep fighting for the nomination.”

Day by day, Hillary inches closer to the Dark Side.

Either that or she's just plain stupid —trusting Karl Rove to paint an accurate picture of her chances. That smells of GOP dirty tricks and is another sign of the trap that's being laid for her if she actually should wind up the nominee.

Well, there goes what little dignity there is left in the Clinton campaign. Any candidate who openly accepts any kind of support from Rove does not deserve to be in the White House.

Doesn't it occur to her that the Republicans WANT her to be the nominee, because they think they have a MUCH better change against the same ol same ol that she represents and not the total unknown that Obama brings? Does she really not get that?

If she does then she's trying to use it to her advantage so that she can get elected in 2012.

More likely, I think she's just delusional and doesn't realize that she fucked up so badly in this campaign that whatever chance she had of being president is gone forever.

Have you ever been watching a sporting event where you were cheering for one particular team? Let's say it's a football game. And let's suppose we've hit the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and your team is down by 14 points. What do you do? Despite the demons of logic screaming in your ear, in your heart you think "OK, all they have to do is go deep, hit a receiver, score a quick touchdown, and then they're only down by 7. Now if they can recover an on-side kick ..." you know how that thinking goes. And as the seconds tick by, it becomes more and more clear that it won't happen, but you keep hoping for something anyway, until it's obvious that even if they did score a TD and miraculously recover the ensuing on-side kick, there's no way they would have enough time to score a second one. And for some people, that doesn't become obvious until the game clock finally stops for good.

That's the feeling that I believe is dominant in the Clinton camp at this point.

The problem is that her actions are more analogous to the center handing the football to the nose tackle because he's miffed that the QB will get all the credit.

I was intending the two teams in the football analogy to represent the Obama and Clinton camps within the Democratic party, not the Dems vs the GOP. The clock is ticking, they're down 14 points, and while they're still dreaming about Hail Mary passes, they're forgetting that if they really deserved to win this thing, they wouldn't be down 14 points with two minutes left to play.

No, I understood that. I sort of modified your analogy and the point I was trying to make is that Obama and Clinton are theoretically on the same team and her actions are hurting her team, to say nothing of the fans sitting in the stands and watching on TV, far more than they are helping her.
