Carbon Belch Day

Things like this really embarrass me that society can really produce ignorant dipshits of this magnitude. Not only do they disagree, their campaign revolves around deliberately causing problems.

Their objective is essentially deliberately to waste resources and expend as much energy as possible for the express purpose of protest. This is the type of mentality that impedes progress and makes it difficult to address problems
Global Warming Skeptics Plot 'Carbon Belch Day'

Conservative grassroots group Grassfire.org wants people to waste as much energy as possible on June 12 to break free from "carbon footprint guilt."

Conservative grassroots group Grassfire.org wants people to waste as much energy as possible on June 12 by "hosting a barbecue, going for a drive, watching television, leaving a few lights on, or even smoking a few cigars."

The point: the group wants to "help Americans break free from the 'carbon footprint guilt' being imposed by Climate Alarmists."

Grassfire.org says it's skeptical over claims that man-made sources of carbon dioxide emissions -- from automobile exhausts to manufacturing plants -- are raising the Earth's temperature at a dangerous rate. Theories about global warming were highlighted by former Vice President Al Gore's 2006 film, An Inconvenient Truth.

Grassfire.org president Steve Elliott, in a statement, said such theories are off the mark. "It's time for Americans to purge ourselves of the false guilt that Al Gore and the Climate Alarmists have placed on us," Elliott said.

Grassfire.org said it chose June 12 as the day it wants Americans to rev up their SUVs because it coincides with expected debate in Congress over a $1.2 billion carbon tax rebate program. "Carbon Belch Day will have at least as much impact on the so-called 'planetary emergency' of man-made global warming as the goofy save the earth mandates telling us to turn our lights off for an hour," said Elliott.

Cities around the world went dark for an hour on March 31 to mark "Earth Hour," an event created by the World Wide Fund for Nature to inspire people to find ways to use less energy.

Grassfire.org is the latest group to question whether global warming is a real phenomenon, or whether it's as severe as portrayed in Gore's film. London's Daily Telegraph this week called environmentalism "the new secular faith."

The paper said the United Kingdom's carbon credits program for industry is "just like the medieval trade in indulgences, where remission for sins was granted by the Church once the sinner confessed and received absolution."

Noted physicist Frederick Seitz, a former president of the National Academy of Sciences, has also questioned the accuracy of global warming theories, as have a number of other academics.

Despite such skepticism, many U.S. companies -- including IT vendors like Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft -- are developing new lines of energy-saving products billed as Earth friendly. IBM (NYSE: IBM), for instance, recently launched Project Big Green, a $1 billion investment to increase the energy efficiency of the company's offerings.

For buyers of such systems, whether or not global warming is real is beside the point. Skyrocketing fuel costs are forcing businesses to cut down on energy consumption in as many ways as possible. As a result, it's unlikely many will decide to "belch" away hard-earned dollars on June 12.

Whether you think that global warming is exaggerated or not - you have to admit that there is a finite supply of fossil fuels, and that they should not be wasted.

I can't imagine how someone could think otherwise.

"Skeptic" seems like a misnomer here. A skeptic might not believe in a potential problem, but would not intentionally try to worsen it without a damn good reason.

I.e. a skeptic does not attend church, but neither does he firebomb it. A zealot firebombs a church.

Call these people what they are...not skeptics, but zealots.

Apparently, trollery extends from the internet to real life. It's amazing that people like this really exist. I hope most people blow this off and just ignore it.

They're even opposed to a market answer. They're just plain denying that a problem exists.

Even if you don't believe in global warming, surely you'd still believe in sulphides and smog, right? It's not as though global warming is the only problem caused by excess use of fossil fuels. Why exacerbate the others?

I've heard people who don't believe in Acid Rain, even when I bring up that it was first coined in the 15 hundreds.

Because it's all about feeling good about yourself! Don't fret about the environment or the energy markets, just leave you're A/C on all day long and remember how America got to the top of those energy use charts!

I don't mind some fucktard essentially self-selecting out of the gene pool, but not when a right-wing fucktard tries it. They always do it in such a way that everyone catches the consequences as well. I don't think it's physically possible to get more selfish than that.

What a great thing to do when the US has just seen the one of the largest single week inventory drops since '82 which is how far DOE records go back, and largest single week oil inventory drawdown since September 2004. If inventories keep falling at this rate, you guys are going to be in deep trouble.

In a way that's kinda true. if the gas price keep going up. the level at which we'd be "pleased" to be wasteful will keep dropping down, thereby reduce greenhouse emission.

if you cared anything about the global warming issue, you should hope the crude oil price to go high and never come back down. There won't be a more effective way to reduce the gas use.

Alright, who's up for "sabotage an SUV day" on the same date?

In all seriousness, though - I'm amazed. People denying that humans are the cause of climate change, while stupid, is believable. But I'm awestruck at the idea of people who won't admit that the problem even exists.

Sheesh, be reasonable, people. If those stinky shrill hippie environmentalists can hold their holier-than-thou carbon reduction days, then surely we should allow the other side to do what they like too, no? Haven't you learned anything from South Park, you uppity liberals?

To be honest, i'm actually STUNNED Butthurt and Stoned didnt think of this first. Ironically though, this is funnier than their version would be by default, because i dont have to listen to Kyle bitch a whole episode about how "opinionated" he is.

Did anybody else think about the Easter Islanders?

Smart EI: Hey, we're almost out of trees. You know, maybe we should limit their use a bit, let the forest regrow.

Dumb EI: Fuck you! I'll use however many trees I want, fuckface! It's my spirits-given right to do that!

Smart EI: Wait, if you cut down the last trees...

Dumb EI: In fact, I will cut them all down just to piss you off!

...and then they all died out.

*sigh*

The climate change isn't caused by people. The Earth recently came out of an ice age, relative to the age of the Earth. Heating is an entirely natural process and it should be occurring. The problem is the rate at which it is occurring and to what extent humans have an impact. It would be far more accurate to say that people are exacerbating the issue instead of saying we're causing it. You may not have meant it like that, but how you phrased it certainly indicates such. Denying that human affected climate change exists is idiotic, but saying that people are responsible for it is just as idiotic. Pinning the entire issue on people is idiotic, phrasing it in a manner that sounds like you're doing so is, if not stupid, a bad idea, as it makes everyone who believes the evidence look bad, just like fundies do with religion as a whole.

Thanks for catching that, I did mean increasing the warming rate rather than causing it.

Doesn't that just cause the grass to fix more carbon and the stuff you mow gets partly trapped in the soil?

There are climate scientists who go so far as to say that Human activity has been altering climate for over 5000 years. They cite an abnormal methane anomaly as a major piece of evidence, and according to them we should already be heading into another Ice Age.
