Teen rampages over computer privileges

Post by chitoryu12 »

Back to Florida, folks.
PALM BAY, Fla. -- A 15-year-old was taken into custody after police said he chased his mother with a knife and beat his brother with a sugar cane over a change in computer privileges.

The teen was charged with aggravated assault and battery after police were called to a home on the 200 block of Silver Oak Road to investigate a disturbance, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported. The teen was arrested Sunday and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Sharpes.

Police said the boy was on the home computer when he grew angry over changes to the system. Police said the teen then threw several objects and picked up a knife and a stick of sugar cane.

The older brother and mother told police the teen pushed his mother several times while clutching the knife. He also struck the brother with the sugar cane, police said.

The teen told police he felt threatened by his mother and sibling.

He was arrested by police and taken into custody.

Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
Well now. I'm waiting to see a politician use this in a rant about the Internet and gaming.

Eh, it could have been "rampages over driving privileges" or "curfew" or "grades" or whatever else. The issue is that the kid seems to have real anger issues. Assuming there isn't some other detail that hasn't come to light to set him off.

He could be bipolar. I have a friend who's bipolar and she can go from the sweetest girl you've ever met to nearly throttling people. Combined with anger issues, you've got a hell of a hot pot.

What the hell was that? That was just too over the top to be real. I mean, that whiny voice? On the other hand, the VoIP artifacts sounded pretty realistic.

That would depend on the details of his anger... I mean, if he had delusions of persecution yeah that could definitely be a factor...

Definitely, though if he was in fact bipolar, it could be more that he was merely on the side where he was very easy to set off and having his computer privaleges restricted just pushed him over the edge.

it would be really fucking stupid (or more so than it already is), if the changes were something trivial like the desktop arrangement or picture...

Hey, don't discount it; I had two friends who lived together that once got into a pretty big blue over something that trivial.

No, I think Kanasterous is right-- a kid flipping out over driving or dating or whatever would be waved off as 'asshole teenager", but because it has to do with computers, it'll be "t3h eeeevil Internets!"

Rock music, Dungeons & Dragons, Comic Books... the Internet is just one more useful scapegoat, waiting to be dragged out for regular beatings.

In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.

I used to live in Palm Bay... Less than a mile from where this happened. Not a shock, there were always some real fucking dipshits in that area.
