Yes this begging the question they keep doing about 'experience' is baffling to me. Don't they even give a shit what KIND of experience they have? I'll never forget that breakdown of what bills Hillary has sponsored and voted for compared to Obama. The actual breakdown was extremely enlightening. Her record showed very ineffectual laws passed and most were regarding fairly irrelevant issues like a monument raised to someone, or minor policy changes.

Obama speaheaded some very real legislation with some teeth and voted for some tough ones as well. He actually got far more accomplished by his record.

Yet Hillary was touted with all the 'experience'. I guess buzz words are more important than reality in politics.

Nope. It looks like Palin may have ties to Jack Abramoff, too. So says HuffPo, anyway.

By the way, I'd just like to point out that just because the Trig is Bristol's kid rumor has been debunked, it doesn't mean it's impossible for it to hurt her. Everybody was up in arms about Obama's crazy Christian reverand for a good long while, and yet there are still people who think he's Muslim. Hell, I know people who are afraid of him because of Wright and are afraid of him because they thing he's Muslim at the same time. I'm sure this rumor won't be as persistant as "But he's a Muslim!!1" but it wouldn't surprise me if a few people still believe it all the way to election day. Just because it's obviously not true doesn't mean it can't hurt a politician.

I can almost guarantee the "Trig is bristol's kid" rumor will die down significantly faster than "Obama is a secret Muslim" if only for the fact that Palin is 1 - White, 2 - Republican, 3 - somewhat attractive.

No doubt about that, but I wouldn't be shocked if it kicked around in some form or another for a good long while. Will enough people buy it for it to have any significant effect? Admittedly, I doubt it, but I've underestimated the gullibility of the average American voter before, as have many of the posters of SDN, I'd bet.

As long as they're conservative Republicans and not "evuul godless commie liburals", the retarded right is willing to forget about all kinds of uncomfortable rumors whether they're true or not.

Good point. I only brought the subject of the rumor up in response to people who asked why it was even mentioned now that it's been debunked. Now that I think on it a bit more, however, I suspect that anyone who's willing to believe that Trig is really Bristol's kid wouldn't vote for McCain anyway.

I think the rumour did more damage by simply publicizing the fact that she named her kids "Trig" and "Bristol". What the fuck kind of person does that?

Dumb redneck trash. What does anyone really think this woman is? Republicans are fucking crazy if they really think department store shopping soccer moms will identify with Miss No Sex Ed and Miss Abortions Are Always Wrong when its clear she's trash and used to shoot moose before school. I mean, really? Just because she's a pretty face? To win the Palin culture war, all the Left ought to do is insinuate she's white trash, and boom there goes any white mom enthusiasm. Of course, that's somewhat Rovian culture tactics, but it will work.

An Alaskan. People dont believe me when I say that there are very few sane alaskans. You try to find them, and like the maple in maple syrup, they just aren't there. I think it is the light/dark cycles. They play with people's heads.

Hey now! As a native alaskan I resent that. I mean, you have to see the sun often enough to have a sunburned neck in order to be a redneck... and even with nearly 24 hours of daylight in high summer, the intensity of the light is not enough to sunburn or even really tan you. I visited Mississippi for the first time when I was 8, and experienced my first sunburn...
shoot moose before school.
Do you have an idea how hard it is to actually kill a moose? You have to practically use an elephant gun to guarantee the moose does not crush you before it dies. I doubt she could handle one in childhood....

Don't forget "Track," "Willow" and "Piper."

Here is the supposed meaning behind these names:
What's in a name? The meanings behind the names of Palin's children *UPDATED*

POSTED August 29, 3:49 PM
Angele Sionna - Early Childhood Parenting Examiner

One of the things that probably struck many folks as they began to read about Sarah Palin after being named as McCain's running mate were the non-traditional names of her five children.

Palin's youngest son is named Trig Paxson Van Palin. After Trig was born, a spokesperson for Palin said that Trig is Norse for true and brave victory. His middle name, Paxson, is the name of an area of Alaska that Palin and her husband think is "one of the most beautiful spots in Alaska," according to a report on MSNBC. Palin is on record joking that she was naming Trig "Van Palin" after eighties rockers Van Halen.

Palin's 18-year-old son is named Track. Todd Palin, Sarah's husband, recently told People Magazine, "Sarah's parents were coaches and the whole family was involved in track and I was an athlete in high school, so with our first-born, I was, like, 'Track!'"

Bristol, Palin's oldest daughter, 17, means "meeting place by the bridge," according to thinkbabynames.com. Bristol is Old English and is the name of an important town in England, which many US cities were named after as well. It has not ranked in the top 1000 baby names in the US in the last 100 years. Bristol Bay is where Todd Palin grew up and fishes.

The name of 13 year old Willow is the Old English name of a tree - the willow. Last year, the SSA ranked it as #230 in popularity for baby girls. Willow is also a town in Alaska.

Piper is Palin's youngest daughter at 7 years old. Piper is an Old English name meaning pipe player or flute player. It is commonly used as a boy and a girl name. It ranked #240 on the SSA database last year and has only been in the top 1000 names since 1999. Todd Palin said to People Magazine about Piper's name, "you know, there's just not too many Pipers out there and it's a cool name."
"Track" is just asinine. I don't care whether or not the story of his inane name origin is true, it is simply awful.

"Bristol" is the worst. It just sounds awful.

"Willow," I have no problem with, but "Trig"? That poor kid has enough problems as it is, what with the Down's Syndrome. I see nothing but teasing coming from that moniker.

I was about to post that, Ender. I've noticed this in other budget games in the past; where the media says that funding has been "cut".

But when you get down to the brass tacks and actually look at the source documents instead of relying on the media; you find that funding has actually been increased; it's just that the initial proposals got scaled back -- like for example, an off the top of my head hippothetical: the Navy asks for a $510 million boost to it's budget to build housing. After the request has been folded spindled and mutilated by the House, Senate, and President, it's $310 million; which of course is reported as a $200 million cut; instead of a $310 million increase.

I don't see much of a problem with Bristol; in fact, I'm not sure why people are even picking apart these names. If she'd deliberately name her kids after Hitler's cabinet then yeah, I'd see it as a red flag, but that's not the case now, is it? Calling these names silly is barely above the scaremongering over 'Hussein' Obama in terms of relevance to her competence.

Bristol sounds like something you'd see in the mouthwash aisle in Walgreens. Not really bad, per se, but not something to be proud of either.

The choice of what names she is going to stick her children with for the rest of their lives is an important choice, and the poor quality she showed in doing it hints at poor quality choice making, which is supported by her many political decisions. It shows a pattern of poor selfish choices made in all aspects of her decision making process.

Of course, it's all subjective. I for one just don't think "Bristol" is a nice name for a girl, sexist as that may sound. If the "Track" story is based in reality, hell, she could have decided on "Rink" instead. Or any other place she and the husband spent a lot of time at. Perhaps "Pew," since they are such big church-goers. Why not "House" or "Cabin"? :)
