Re: "If Prop 8 fails, schools will teach about gay marriage!"
I'd love to see the Mormon church take a serious threat to their tax-exemption over the truly insane political entanglement they have in this particular piece of bigotry, but don't count on it. They've gone full-court against gay marriage in other states before this as well (plus on other issues, such as the missiles back in the 1980s and the Equal Rights Amendment) without losing it. Besides, the IRS doesn't really seem to consider a problem unless a church actually endorses a specific candidate for office, as opposed to simply fighting on political issues.

I was disgusted by one person on Bill Maher last week saying "But you can't remove the Tax exempt status on the Mormons and The Knights of Columbus, they do so much Charity Work!"

In the war of ads, the new NO on 8 ad is narrated by none other than Samuel L Jackson.
It was a little disappointed I didn't see him in the actual ad but it was still good nonetheless.

I wonder how old these people think kids need to be before they can learn about gay marriage.
Most of them teach their kids about murder and genocide at a very young age, when they're in Sunday School. Does this mean gay marriage is worse than murder and genocide?

I heard this "argument" somewhere. I don't remember where. I probably don't want to remember where, but here goes:Darth Wong wrote:I wonder how old these people think kids need to be before they can learn about gay marriage.

"Yes, it's [gay sex] worse than killing, because when you kill someone you're only hurting them, but when two men have sex, they're hurting God."
These people have serious issues. Not that this is any surprise to anyone.

lets not forget they get really mad when you point out that this proposition is written and funded by the polygamous, little girl raping mormons and the boy raping catholic church. (yeah, yeah, I know not fair to compare a few priests and the FLDS to the rest of the organization. but their comments and deck stacking hasn't been fair either.)

Which reminds me, is it necessary to teach kids murder and genocide at a young age? I mean teaching kids that such behaviour exists?Darth Wong wrote:I wonder how old these people think kids need to be before they can learn about gay marriage.

Also, should a school even teach marriage in the first place, both hetrosexual or homosexual marriage in a public school?
I mean when you teach about hetrosexual marriage, schools will use it and teach people about how bad pre-martial sex is, and the need to get married and so on. In this end, homosexual or not, the people will still find ways to sink in religous and their moral values when a teacher or school is going to teach about marriage.

You're therefore left wondering how that works since their god is omnipotent and thus you shouldn't be able to hurt him unless he allows himself to be hurt... hmm, god is into some kinky shit.Mayabird wrote: "Yes, it's [gay sex] worse than killing, because when you kill someone you're only hurting them, but when two men have sex, they're hurting God."

It's because God is everywhere and always watching us, and is really, really sick of all the channels being filled with gay porn. He's the Ultimate Voyeur Prude. He's not entirely sure about the lesbians though.SylasGaunt wrote:You're therefore left wondering how that works since their god is omnipotent and thus you shouldn't be able to hurt him unless he allows himself to be hurt... hmm, god is into some kinky shit.Mayabird wrote: "Yes, it's [gay sex] worse than killing, because when you kill someone you're only hurting them, but when two men have sex, they're hurting God."

Yosemite, don't, tried it with a few sign wavers I was talking to when they said it was 'unnatural'. They threatened to mob me. It's annoying at how thick people can be though, the same people keep ranting about how its an 'abomination', and how 'gay rights don't count', and 'we'd be better off without them anyways!'. It's kind of scary.

Re: "If Prop 8 fails, schools will teach about gay marriage!"
I wonder if some schools will respond by making it against the rules and noting missing such classess as failure. The code allows districts to decide against teaching health and sex education, and allows parents to pull their children from those classes or others dealing with sensitive subject matters.
Seriously, where is anybody right to remain ignorant written down?
Since when are children married against their will in classrooms?“Schools begin talking to children about the characteristics of family and marriage as early as the second grade,” Brown said. “We are not challenging the rights of gays to marry, but what we are challenging is when those rights are forced into the classroom.”
Credo!

Since when was marriage, of any type, taught in schools at all? My teachers certainly wouldn't waste time on it.

A friend of mine seems to think that children's books in classrooms/school libraries will be replaced with ones that show pictures of families featuring same-sex couples instead of "Mom & Dad." He also thinks that gay people will suddenly become extremely flamboyant (apparently their natural personality state, currently being repressed due to social norms) should Prop 8 fail.

I think they meant something along the lines of: "we are challenging when knowledge of homosexuality is forced into the classroom. The gays may have their rights, but we think it's wrong they can force children to know about them."
I'd like to challenge when the knowledge of religion is forced into children's minds.
Have there been any studies of evidence of children being (ugh -_- ) "brainwashed"/conditioned into being homosexual by education? Because on the flip side, children brought up and exposed to religion early on usually adopt those viewpoints for the rest of their lives and frankly I find that to be a much more worrisome thought.
I vaguely recall some bit of anthropology info. that spoke about a culture, Indonesian I think? not sure.., that taught about the facts of sex early on in life. Supposedly the result was that as teenagers, the kids were less likely to try and rebel against their parents; there wasn't any sexual tension so teenagers were much calmer.. I think the woman who investigated this went on to found Cosmopolitan..? I'm a bit tired/sick and I could have my memories mixed up.

~Carl SaganI went to the librarian and asked for a book about stars ... And the answer was stunning. It was that the Sun was a star but really close. The stars were suns, but so far away they were just little points of light ... The scale of the universe suddenly opened up to me. It was a kind of religious experience. There was a magnificence to it, a grandeur, a scale which has never left me. Never ever left me.

Re: "If Prop 8 fails, schools will teach about gay marriage!"
The only way I could see that happening is if the children are introduced to homosexuality during the "girls have cooties" phase, and boys decide that they are gay because they think girls are gross and prefer spending time with their boy friends. However this scenario seems extremely unlikely.Garlak wrote:Have there been any studies of evidence of children being (ugh -_- ) "brainwashed"/conditioned into being homosexual by education?

And yet again, religious fanatics argue that knowledge, however truthful, is like poison to a child's mind.
