ah ok, I had interpreted Edi's as claiming that it wouldn't be nice to live in a communist society. but you guys are totaly right, its pretty much proven by now that you can't just force people to be good and not selfcentered.
and to contribute to the thread:
people who don't object to wiretapping/survailance cameras/data retention/national databases/etc. because they "have nothing to hide".

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester

Wierd, I was just about to post the exact opposite, people who oppose to security measures in public places, but won't give a reason beyond "teh governmentz noes where you is!" Anyone with a basic concept of, well, anything knows that, even if they were watching the footage in real-time, you'd have to hire an economically unfeasible number of people to watch them all. But no, the government is tracking you, because your just that goddamn important.
The other one is the one where people think that car GPS devices are used to tract their movements. Again, it's totally self-centered thinking, where a person believes they are important enough to be tracked.

I tried to avoid that in my post, and was talking about the belief that "teh government is tracking me" rather than the morality of surveillance technology. Sorry about that.

How about the idea that a government can settle its debt simply by printing more its money?
Credo!

Still even my creationist ex-bosses have had trouble arguing against the continued existance of MRSA, Various Influenza strains, The Rhinovirus, and other microscopic things. If you want evolution in a stage where even the denseist can understand point them to bacteria, when you looking at countless generations growing in the span of an hour just about anyone can see it taking place.
