I don't quite follow you here. If people have a disdain for security guard jobs, then less people would be willing to do them, which in turn would mean that employers would offer higher pay to attract people.
What I mean by disdain is that they look down at you as if you don't know anything and are expendable. The reason that they don't respond by getting another job is that they can't get any other better paying job. In that post I wasn't talking so much about security jobs as some other jobs though. A lot of security jobs do seem to consist of mostly fighting boredom but I guess that would vary from job to job.

The only hitch is that quite a few of those oldsters may retire, but they won't stay home, they'll go looking for work because they'll have a need (real or perceived) for more money. Which means more competition for everyone already looking for work.

My post was strictly with regards to the workload to workforce ratio as it currently stands in the USPS. Macroscopic ripples affecting the national economy are well beyond my worm's eye view and personal knowledge base. :P
