Wait what ... are you really saying that the propaganda network of the Republicans is not so strong that it could result in a 90-6 vote against the measure? Really?Count Chocula wrote:Wait what...are you really saying that the "propaganda network" of the Republicans is so strong that it could result in a 90-6 vote against the measure? It's not mind-control technology; it's their own propaganda network, a society geared to be highly receptive to right-wing fearmongering, and a national population full of idiots.
This is the same propaganda machine which convinced a solid majority of the American people that Saddam Hussein planned 9/11 without a shred of evidence, fool. They never even had to pretend they had any evidence. They just kept implying it, and everyone accepted it. Shameless propaganda + Idiot population + Unprincipled politicians = Do whatever the fearmongers say.
It happened before, you fucking moron. Remember Iraq?Nine Democrats voted "No" or abstained. Pray tell, how can you possibly say with a straight face that the 50 Democrats and Independents who voted "Yes" caved in to "right wing fearmongering?"
That's exactly what I'm saying, retard. I don't know why you're having so much trouble comprehending this.Shit, if that's really true, the Republicans are still in control.

I've forgotten just how much of a weasel Dick Cheney is. His entire speech is nothing but fear-mongering. There's just no substance there.
And after a familiar fashion, it excuses the violent and blames America for the evil that others do. It's another version of that same old refrain from the Left, "We brought it on ourselves."

Irony meter has gone through the roof. Human rights? Your administration mocked human rights - secret prisons, extraordinary rendition anyone? For 'rational' or peaceful resolution of differences? Are you bloody serious? What was invading Iraq about then?List all the things that make us a force for good in the world - for liberty, for human rights, for the rational, peaceful resolution of differences - and what you end up with is a list of the reasons why the terrorists hate America.

Unfortunately, right-wing American politicians (and citizens) never seem to tire of the canard that terrorists hate America because of its most admirable qualities, instead of its least admirable qualities.

What did he say? Because "quis custodiet ipsos custodes" has been around in one form or another since Plato's Republic, and the Latin phrasing originates in Juvenal's Satires, from the 1st or 2nd century CE.hongi wrote:Ho-ly shit. He just made a Watchmen reference.
