My biggest concern is why didn't the Police intervene when the strikers AND locals were impeding access to garbage drop off sites. Especially when they blocked them from being sprayed with pesticide.

Makes me wonder what ever happened to "rule of law".

We just have to hope that they find some kind of competent individuals.
That problem isn't unique to Toronto or Canada.
Locally we have a Democratic Mayor who won election in 2003 because of heavy opposition to the Republican Mayor's push for a $20 million downtown minor league baseball park.

Thanks to Lloyd's heavy backing of a downtown arena, his Democratic opponent even won the traditionally Republican First Ward.

While this sounds mild, the problems were/are that we already have a decent minor league park (decent enough to have been used for locations shots in 'A League of Our Own') and that most voters have had it up to here with harebrained schemes to 'revitalize' downtown.

The shopping mall and the local city/county government complex (built astride the main artery in/out of downtown) were the death knell of downtown Evansville as a retail/entertainment district.

Leaving out a lot of details, I'll say that Lloyd's replacement is as firmly in the pocket of General Contractors, Inc., as Lloyd himself was.

I say this because despite major grassroots opposition, the same people in both parties who favored the ballpark now favor 'Weinzapfel's folly'.

Don't get me wrong, as I personally think we need to replace the 50 year old existing Roberts Stadium.
I just don't think that fucking dead ass downtown Evansville is the place to put it.
Shit, tear down or remodel the existing stadium and I can get behind it.

As it is, if you compare lists of state and local Democratic contributors and beneficiaries of the contracts to be let for the new arena, they're one and the same.

To to be fair to the Democrats, the same contributors were lined up behind Mayor Lloyd prior to his defeat.

I guess money knows no ideology.
