Bizarre Home Invasion: Intruder suggests calling 9-1-1.

Post by Solauren »

Sometimes truth is stranger then fiction...
MONTREAL (CBC) - A western Quebec homeowner is recovering from a knife wound to his neck after being surprised last week by an intruder in his basement who had been eating his fruit and using his clothes dryer.

Chris Holloway called police from his home in Chelsea, a village just north of Gatineau, Que., after his attacker asked if he would do so.

"He actually said to me, 'Well, aren't you going to call police?'" Holloway recalled Tuesday. "And so I thought, 'That's a good idea.' So I ended up dialing 911."

On the evening of Aug. 4, Holloway had returned to his quiet house in Chelsea, then headed down the stairs to drop an empty wine bottle in a recycling bin in his basement.

There, he was startled to find a stranger armed with a butcher knife leaning up against the wall.

"I dropped my car keys and wine bottle and he just took a lunge at me and he sliced my neck," Holloway recalled.

At that point, the man expressed concern that he could face charges, and Holloway asked him what he wanted to do next.

The intruder responded that he'd like to sit down, so Holloway took his knife and took him upstairs to the kitchen, offering him a seat at the table.

Holloway said he stood near the fridge on shaky legs and tried to wipe the blood from his wound with some paper towels, unsure of what to do next.

That was when the man asked him whether he was going to call the police.

Holloway took the suggestion and the dispatcher asked to speak to the intruder, who told them his name and birthdate as requested. The police arrived less than five minutes later and arrested the man, Holloway said.

He believes the man had entered his house seeking shelter after a heavy downpour, and hopes the man gets the help he needs.

Fortunately, the wound did not hit Holloway's jugular vein. He was treated in hospital and released.

Stéphane Brunet, 37, has been charged with attempted murder and will remain under psychiatric observation for 30 days to determine whether he is mentally fit to stand trial.
Highly unusual.

I would not be surprised if the results psychiatric observation (evaluation) indicated that Mr. Brunet was in need of medical help of some kind.
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Heh..
Locally this weekend we had a drunk guy in a pickup truck try to impersonate a cop by pulling up next to a motorist, flashing his wallet as if showing a badge, and then demanding the motorist pull over.

Unluckily for the impersonator, the motorist he attempted to pull over was an off duty Indiana State Police trooper.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

I'm guessing his weekend got a lot worse after that. Talk about bad luck.

This sort of thing is why the Americans are fearful and suspicious of us Canadians, you know.
