So much for "McCain can't stand her, really" as some persons love to claim.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Actually that still leaves us with "McCain can't stand her but is an opportunist with absolutely no morals and principles and thus is willing to campaign with her to drum up support from the base."
Oh wait. That sounds worse.

My my, how the mighty (relatively speaking) have fallen. Ten years ago, McCain would never have needed to attach himself to the skirts of somebody like Yukon Barbie to maintain the hold on his base. Now it's shifted and here he is, desperate to show himself as one with the teabaggers to keep alive his fading political career.
I guess being made Karl Rove's bitch back in 2000 left its mark.

I don't understand. I thought it was already established that Sarah Palin is a fool. Why are people still talking about her and putting her in the spotlight so much?

Some fools on the conservative end of spectrum see her as the great white hope of the Republican party.

The same thing that GWB had; the "just like me" factor. People wanted someone with whom they could identify, and have a beer. It's not about thinking they'll make a great leader, it about whether or not people like them.
As long as Palin keeps being likeable, she'll keep being popular. As long as she remains popular, the GOP Inner Party will keep her around as needed to woo voters.

And here I thought that type of "popular and likable over competent" mentality faded out after high school.

The following statement is in no way misogynistic:
"If it bleeds, it leads" is the old newsroom maxim. It's the same reason people rubberneck to look at car crashes. For some reason seeing someone make a total jackass of themselves on the national and world stage is just fucking too good not to watch, especially with a polarizing ignorant nutjob like Palin. The fact that maybe 20% of the American public think she's qualified for President adds to that, especially since that 20% makes so much noise you'd think that they were the vast majority.

In this case, it's because John McCain is facing what looks to be a difficult Republican primary challenge, and his opponent (a man named J.D. Hayworth) is very firmly of the Teabagger persuasion. So he needs firm up his support among Republican primary voters, most of whom are also Teabaggers and other paleoconservative fossils. End-result? Campaigning with that darling of the Teabagger movement Yukon Barbie.

The modern Republican Party seems to be composed primarily of people who kept their high school mentalities well into middle age.

George W. Bush was established to be a fool, and it didn't stop him from becoming so immensely popular with the retards, er- I mean "real Americans", that someone paid for a billboard of him recently with the caption "Miss me yet?" on it.

Well, I miss Dubya simply because being a Democrat was so much easier three years ago.
Anyways, I'm thinking that Sarah Palin's agreement to go campaign for McCain is so way for her to make overtures to the GOP establishment. Or she's just looking to boost her ratings.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

No actually, McCain did this to himself. He was actually electable in 2000 -- I would have voted for him, but Bush edged him out in the primaries. McCain's own political decisions and choices between 2000 and 2008 effectively doomed himself to obscurity -- to the point where I actually voted for Huckabee in the MD primaries (since romney had lost earlier and bowed out). It was only by attaching himself to BARBIE that he managed to turn the election from a humilating landslide for Obama to the not as humilating defeat it was.
