John Birmingham starts it off.
And an op-ed on it that he refers to.
I'm actually quite surprised it took this long to bring up Nauru. The best argument in favour of the tax.
Besides of course the fact that we're practically giving away our resources in the hopes that BHP and Rio might boost some superannuation funds.
So, the mining tax...

The attitude of people like Andrew Forrest is just pathetic.
How DARE the Government ask for money in exchange for me -literally- digging up Australia and shipping it overseas!
There is a real attitude of 'we should be allowed to dig up whatever we want and sell it off without paying the Australian people jack becasue we employ some of them to do it' coming across.

Look mate, I put all those millions and billions of dollars into this venture, took all the risks and now you tell me I don't deserve all the profits. Yeah right.Chris OFarrell wrote:

Believe it or not, that above attitude appeared in my local newspaper and unless that guy was a mining executive in disguise, its most probably some moron who subscribes to trickle down economics. While it does trickle down. To the people who work on mining sites. Maybe for some who cater to them, however for most like in my state of WA it just makes house prices ridiculously high making it harder for others to buy.

Oh remember folks, its ONLY bad when mining operations are run by companies affiliated with say... CHINA (and we were bitching even when they weren't going to take a majority stake). When its run by someone else who doesn't want to pay the required then its A-OKAAAY. If I don't see commercials invoking the spirit of the ANZACs criticising these multinational companies like Rio Tinto trying to take our resources I shall be very disappointed. But then the double standards of right wing retards are well known.

It'll be interesting to see if Rudd finds the balls to push the thing through, he's well displayed his first instinct is to cave when it seems someone wont like him, but he's done that so often he's got to get something big through or he may as well hand over to Gillard now.
And an off-topic prediction. The next PM of Australia will be Gillard, toppling Rudd partway through the next term.
