Five suspected Islamist militants have been arrested for planning a gun attack at the Copenhagen offices of a Danish newspaper that printed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in 2005, police say.
The men intended to burst into the Jyllands-Posten office and kill as many people as possible, officials said.
Justice Minister Lars Barfoed said the "outrageous" plot was "the most serious attempt at terror so far in Denmark".
Four suspects were held in Denmark and the fifth was detained in Sweden.
Denmark's security agency Pet said the suspects included two Swedish residents with Tunisian backgrounds, one Lebanon-born Swede, and an Iraqi. The other was described only as Swedish.
Earlier this month, an Iraq-born Swedish Muslim blew himself up in Stockholm - apparently as he was preparing a suicide bombing.

I'd be curious at exactly how they were caught before they could pull it off. If nothing else it would seem to show that most terrorists aren't very bright.

Well at least they got caught before they did anything. On the scale of things though, shooting up a post office is pretty pathetic for a terror plot. Not for the folks getting shot at obviously, but hardly the same scale as a bombing.

Seems as if the Danish and Swedish police have been keeping an eye on the cell, they grabbed them when they started to execute the plan.

As I was then.

So when will you guys start violating civil liberties to defend the people from more terrorist attacks? Will you be placing large orders for backscatter machines?
"New Swedes"? Are all "Swedes" on here Flashback graduates or something?

Only when the US tells us to. Which they did a few years ago. But don't worry, they have assured us that the wiretapping and breaking and entering will only apply to brown people.

The point is to only go after the guys who actually plan and/or do this kind of thing. Cracking down on Arabs or Muslims in general will only feed a persecution complex, something religious fanatics thrive on.

exactly. I remember reading about several cases in the US were attacks were thwarted because other muslims in the community snitched to the FBI. Hence alienating the muslim community as a whole is deplorably stupid.

All but one of the thwarted domestic-ish Islamist plots I've heard of, in fact. (Or two if the shoe-bomber was American. And I'm not sure he counts as "thwarted" so much as "failed".) And one in England, as I recall. Wouldn't be surprised if this was a Swedish case of same as well, actually - according to the article the authorities were observing this lot for months, which doesn't exactly scream brutal repression or random raids to me.
