To be fair: The U.S. Government does not support, and never has supported, the MEK. Moreover, the impression that I've gotten from writers who were/are associated with the USFG has been one ranging from pitiable disdain to outright vitriolic hostility. Even when the MEK was fighting the Iranians as an Iraqi division it received no support from the west.

Why Giuliani and the others would actually speak on their behalf is mind boggling, considering that they are both ardently messianic Shiites and dyed in the wool Marxists. (The translation of their title is, more or less, "The People's Holy Warriors of Iran", with an emphasis on People's). Especially when they're, essentially, a spent force in Iran these days.

I'd think it was strategic ignorance... but Bush-era antiterror officials *not knowing* about this group and endorsing it anyway is frightening.

Though if they were operating on that level back in the day, it might help to explain how Iraq ended up as such a mess.

It's Afghanistan all over again. The enemy of my enemy and all that. You'd think they knew better, but it appears that they're conservative when it comes to learning from their mistakes, too.

Of course. If they don't do this now, then who in the future will bite America back in the ass, once more "threatening" the nation and prompting the right wing cryptofascist fucks' rise to power through the exploitation of the public's fear to promote rampant militarism, imperialism, and foreign adventurism? This is for the good of America, so that the American nation may be strong, so that it will weather the uncertain future, so that it can keep the American people safe and ensure freedom and democracy in an entire anti-American world that needs to be liberated for its own good.
