we have some history with the French that would tend to make buying military equipment off them... unpopular, shall we say.
er.. you do realise we have been allies for ages and have recently agreed to actually share hardware resources? The reason we went for F35 and euro fighter is that their simply better than Rafale , which is rather old tech compared to the new boys. Although obviously we might not actually ever get our F35s so we’ll see.
Of course the death penalty is so rare, it isn't a viable deterrent.
I’m guessing you’re American and if so I find your comment highly amusing seeing as you execute more than anyone else on the planet and still think it’s not enough. If you’re not American I apologise.
Thulsa Doom acts well within the legal boundaries of his own society.
Conan was sent by the local King when Doom recruited/stole his daughter, I’d imagine that imparts him legal authority for what it matters.

.
It is much more to do with local aviation industry rather than "Fuck the French".
We want to be able to build our own fighters, but don't really have the money to develop one solo. Hence the multi national eurofighter, and the help we gave to the JSF program.
However, I still don't understand why we retired the harrier so early. They're expensive and old, but we now have no fixed wing carrier aviation...

Me neither, as I understand it retiring Ark Royal early was required because it was in such a bad shape it was getting pointless to keep it at sea but there was no real need to relegate Illustrious to a helicopter carrier (which cost £40 million in itself) except budget cuts, and the fuel we are burning bombing Libya probably cancels out any savings we made, if there were any in the first place.
For being the 4th most well funded military in the world we don't have much capability!

It does. I read when we started the whole libya thing that we could have re-activated the harriers and shipped them out with their former crews on the Illustrious without too much hassle, for a similar cost and much more capability to the whole flying tornadoes from crete or wherever we're flying them from.
Also, I think just renaming this thread would do. We're already here.

It's Comrade Claus This is not the first time he's chimed in with some ridiculous viewpoint on this sort of topic.

Personnaly, I like the death penalty. A dead criminal is cheaper than a live criminal & a far lesser threat to peace. But I prefer something spectacular, like a coliseum.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Because they were also kind of redundant in the counter-insurgency role now that we have Apache gunships -they're better at killing enemy helicopters and ground attack aircraft but that's about it- and they lack the capability to protect themselves or their carriers from any hostile force with the ability to engage from beyond visual range. They were preserving the skill-set needed for operating the F-35B, but now that we're almost certainly buying the F-35C instead that's not going to be as much help.
