Arpaio raids...my old employer

Post by Xisiqomelir »

Fox Phoenix
TEMPE, Ariz. - The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office served search warrants at a Phoenix-based vitamin company Thursday morning and arrested 31 of the people working there.

Based on a tip MCSO received, deputies conducted a 5-month investigation of 21st Century Healthcare, near Broadway and Mill, in Tempe.

It was the sheriff's 68th crime sweep.

Deputies were looking for 34 employees at the vitamin warehouse who they think used false identification to gain employment with the company.

Most of the 31 workers arrested were women. Deputies were not able to locate the other 3 people they wanted to investigate.

The company operates out of three buildings, all of which were searched. Some of the workers tried to run when they saw deputies arrive at the business.

"The suspects went up to the rafters. They went up to the roof. So, evidently, they believed they had an escape plan, but it didn't work. We surrounded the building," Arpaio said.

Arpaio said the company's CEO was cooperating with them.

Arpaio said that during his crime sweeps, 99.9 percent of workers with false IDs have been illegal immigrants.

Statement by 21st Century Vitamins

"21st Century fully cooperated with MCSO in today’s action. 21st Century takes its responsibility to hire legal employees very seriously. Not only do we E-Verify all of our new hires and complete I-9 forms, but we hire a majority of our employees through leasing agencies that use E-Verify in order to further assure their legal status. This results in most of the 21st Century employees being subjected to E-Verify twice prior to being hired, which is above and beyond the current requirements.

"21st Century makes every effort to comply with all State and Federal immigration laws, rules and regulations. Unfortunately, the system does not prevent illegal aliens using false identifications to obtain employment, thus beating the E-Verify system."

I feel bad for the workers, who are just people trying to get by. Zero sympathy for ownership, who truly go above and beyond in straining the limits of what it means to be evil shitstains. It wasn't quite Mr. Coffee, but the rampant bullfuckery that went on there was ridiculous, and I only wish I'd left sooner.

Can one of you clever people tell me how to extract and download the embedded flash on the Fox site? Would love to have those two videos to keep for myself.

If nothing else, the Firefox extension DownloadHelper appears to work. Install the extension and then start the video playing, and you'll be able to click on the DownloadHelper icon to start downloading it. There used to be websites that could do the same thing without installing anything, but I haven't checked if they're still around.

It will be a *.flv file, so you need the right codecs (like the ones in the K-lite codec pack) to play it.
