For fuck's sake... Really, you goddamn asshole? We seriously had to stretxch a thread that should hazve died with someone telling the OP he's a fucking useless shitposting asshat on this? Reallly?

Here's the balls out no shit facts...

Numbnuts wasn't given a felony rap for stealing a soda. The OP is an idiot and a liar for saying such.

It turns out if you commit multiple misdemeanor offenses on top of having prior convictions for one or more of those offenses you get your charges upgunned to a felony. Who knew... Oh, right, anyone with a fucki9ng brain and a basic familiarization of laws n the US knew that.

Dumbass was drunk off his tits when this shit happened. By all means tell me this is ok and I"ll come t your house, get shitfaced and progressively break your shit,m fuck your old lady, and make myself a sammich while you whine to me that this is somehow ok (bonus points if you can tell me the number of times I've drunk posted on this board).

Goddamn, it's like I'm explaining to little kids why touching the hot stove is a bad idea...

Umm, I didn't say he was given a felony rap for stealing a soda. Read the title. It said bumped up to felony. Other than that, though, yes, I was being an idiot. Liar, no.

I mean, what the fuck else did you mean by titling the thread "Florida does it again: soda theft bumped up to felony", susan? If you even try to tell me that wasn't meant as inflammatory or to suggest that this drunken prior convict was somehow not in the wrong I'll just go ahead and call you a goddamned liar here and now. Seriously, get the fuck out now, newbie.

Eh, while I agree it's stupid and USA has sick way of enforcing "justice", someone on repeated offences really should think about his behaviour, unless he really doesn't care about his life anymore.
fgalkin wrote:Even assuming it's only 12 people a day, that STLL adds up to almost $4500 in a year. And that's not counting whatever other stuff they may steal.
Are you seriously suggesting that syrup McDonalds dilutes and sells 1$ a pop costs them 1$ when someone drinks a cup? :wtf:

I doubt they pay $4500 per year per soda total, much less 12 "stolen" cups per day. Besides, they probably lose multiple times that due to spillages and waste - the horror!
Bakustra wrote:"whatever other stuff"? Jesus Christ, this is really the only thing you can easily steal at a fast-food restaurant besides shit like napkins and ketchup packets. Are we going to see that next? People doing prison time for repeatedly hoarding ketchup packets?
I must admit I took 3 ketchup packets when I was a uni student from local bar after eating dinner there because my bottle ran out this morning. Clearly, that makes me unproductive member of society
PhilosopherOfSorts wrote:Now if I didn't do any time for stealing $400.00 by means of forged checks, what makes you think this guy is going to get the maximum for walking out of McD's with a $1.00 soda?
Wanna bet his skin color might have a lot to say in deciding jail time?
SVPD wrote:3) Where exactly is picking up lost property theft?
You're seriously proposing something left from sight for a moment is legally free for grabbing while maintaining anti-theft stance? :wtf:

Mind if I visit your home and help myself to a few 'lost' items while you're working?

I've always wondered about the place soda has in those restaurants' business model. On the one hand, the syrup/water combo is cheap. On the other hand, I'm not sure restaurant profit margins are all that high. They may rely on being able to sell cheap soda at high prices in order to actually make any money.

Movie theaters pretty much do, that and the popcorn.

A large drink had a product cost of about 11 cents 4-6 years ago, a dollar mcdouble had a product cost of about 50-60 cents.

The Duchess of Zeon wrote:Omega18, keep repeating the tired tropes, but here are more facts:

Recidivism rate in Norway - 20%.

So Norway, which relies on incredibly light and easy punishments which nobody could consider a deterrent, which explicitly avows deterrence, which avoids jail time whenever it can for convicts and then gives them jails as comfortable as hotels when it does imprison them, manages about one-third of the recidivism rate of the United States with our "deterrence" based system.

So there's all the bloody evidence you need; our system doesn't work, and deterrence and your falacious "hordes of people will start breaking the law like this minor change of giving people a chance to pay a fine instead of getting a misdemeanor conviction will instantaneously make them snort a line of coke and play Judas Priest while smashing windows" argument are simply no candle to mere reality.
Norway's own stats say the recidivism rate is closer to 50%. And, considering that the DoJ's website on international crime statistics links to my site rather than yours, I imagine my rate's a little closer to the actual figure.

Actually, It shouldn't matter that this guy in particular was already worthless scumbag. The soda theft didn't become a felony because he was a prior felon. Look at what it says: "petit theft, 3rd or sub offense".

The whole point here is that a man could be a fucking saint, but if he stole a $1 soda on three occasions, he'd be a felon for a total of $3 worth of theft. That's what's fucked up.

...he's not a saint. I'm not saying he's Josef Mengele, but if you're committing petty theft for soda, you're an asshole.
