A person swears and insults a foreign country in what that person though was a private conversation.

This is news how? This happens a thousand times a day and anyone that things this is special because it was leaked is pretty delusional.

I'm not really seeing the hypocrisy. US anger seems to be more that whoever did the spying released the information to the public to score political points, rather than the fact that its diplomats were spied on in the first place.

Read, someone who has big interest in setting up big, scary strawman?

And that is besides the fact Russian accent on Ukraine means nothing, even if he heard it. Would you treat, say, Swiss blog stating Germany wants to annex Switzerland by quietly replacing state institutions from inside (because every policeman, teacher and doctor in the area has perfect German accent) seriously?
In any case, I hardly think the US carries the same clout in that area of the world as Russia does.
US envoy openly discusses who they will install as next PM. What Russia does? Nothing. Yanukowych already dismissed 2 politicians seen as the most pro-Russian in government as a sign of conciliation, and it honestly looks like Russia has little to no means of influencing the situation besides giving more credits to Ukraine. What exactly makes you think Putin is in control of anything there?
