Israel says "fuck 60yrs of war", treats Syrians in hospital

I found an article on CBC news this morning claiming that Israel - or at least, some of its hospitals - has been giving life-saving care to Syrians caught in the ongoing civil conflict, despite the fact that their nations have been at war for longer than I've been alive and, officially, hate each other. Apparently even the Syrians can't believe it when they wake up in Israeli hospitals recieving state-of-the-art medical care for their wounds.

It's nice to see somebody do the right thing once in a while, trust someone they haven't, extend a hand to someone they didn't think would take it.

There is prior precedent for the Israelis treating the wounded enemy in during conflicts, and even more so for treating civilians.

Pretty old news. Same thing is ongoing with the Palestinians, one of the big causes of traffic is them travelling into Israel for healthcare.

It's news enough in Canada to make a big deal of it. You'd get the impression from our media that we had no idea people there could get along with each other.

I know there's no way to answer this, but I would very much enjoy knowing what percentage of people are surprised by this in:

1) Syria
2) Israel
3) Palestine
5) The European country of your choice
6) The US
7) This board?

The article claims that the Syrians denied knowing they were in Israel and/or were in shock that they were being treated there and/or feared that they would be beaten back home if anyone knew. So, my guess would be that the Syrians at least were pretty surprised.

Frankly, the only thing we were shown here, from as early as we can comprehend that there is such a thing as the 'middle east', is that Arabs and Israelis wouldn't piss on each other if they were on fire, which they would be, because the other guy set the fire. Possibly the younger generation, who've spent a lifetime with the Internet, might know better than those of us who were born in the mid Cold War era.
